Need help - Lots of water draining from plug on '17 212X

Shouldn't really matter - any 100% silicone from your local home improvement store would work fine.

Surf Pipes for Yamahas invented yet?

Surf pipes work by putting the exhaust output into the prop stream which force the exhaust back behind the surfer. I'm not sure it would work as well if you just put the exhaust into the water behind the boat. Not sure there would be a good way to get the exhaust into the jet stream on a jet boat.

Is this *just* a gel coat repair?

You are into the fiberglass there, but because its a smaller gouge and because the hull is super thick at that spot I'd personally feel comfortable with a gel coat fix and then install a keel guard over it. Having said that, even though I've made many gel coat repairs through out my life, I'm...

    Tower breakage

yeah hard to tell from the pic but it seems to me either the bottom of that tear got pushed in to cause it or the top of the tear got pushed out to cause it. If the bottom is pushed in, then something probably pushed against it from the outside. If the top is pushed out then it likely from...

    Laser etching

Not trying to be that guy but just as an FYI for the future, the logo you used on that cup is actually the Yamaha Music division logo. The Yamaha Motor logo used for boats, atvs, motorcycles, jet skis, etc is different in that the tips touch the edge of the circle. Again, maybe you don't care...

    Damaged boat at pickup

I'll chime in with some others - if they take it to a quality shop you will never be able to find it, it will 100% be like brand new. So although I'm in your camp on the frustration, don't worry about it being noticed if its done right --- make sure its fixed right, meaning you can't even find...

    Damaged boat at pickup

Yes they should absolutely extend some type of courtesy for selling you a brand new boat that is damaged. I understand it will be like new when you do finally get it, but its the principle of the thing for me. I would be very frustrated. Unfortunately I wouldn't expect anything from them, in...

Only could go 5MPH on the way back...grass, algae, and other things....

Huh - thanks for that detailed explanation, I always thought it was the seal that blows when you pump too much grease in - this makes so much more sense... and also, what a terrible design.

Only could go 5MPH on the way back...grass, algae, and other things....

Unfortunately given this, I’m going to have to revise my previous post and agree with CobraJet. You have to be so careful about greasing these bearing assemblies. If you have pumped grease in and it is coming out of the seal then most certainly the seal is now blown. How much time you have...

Only could go 5MPH on the way back...grass, algae, and other things....

You would be absolutely amazed how little it takes to create cavitation inside the pumps. I've had a piece of red Solo cup the size of a silver dollar cause the pump to feel and sound like I sucked up a dirty diaper or something. It takes very little to cause cavitation, even some sealant on...

    Reverse Steering Yamaha vs Seadoo

Yep Yamaha will backup the way you would intuitively expect per steering wheel input (like a prop boat) - Seadoo, Scarab, Glastron jet boats backup opposite of that. Lateral thrusters were by far the best mod I ever had on my '17 212x IMO. They take 30% of the reverse thrust and shoot it...

    Gas Prices vs Boat Prices

To that point I ordered a locking gas cap for my 2004 Yukon. We have already had the gas theft (albeit rare) in our neighborhood in the past, expecting an uptick of that everywhere.

    Gas Prices vs Boat Prices

I don't see us boating any less this year - may have to pick which kid gets to go to college, but won't be boating any less than usual. :p

Shoes or no shoes on a jet boat!

I find that most guests will treat your boat with about 15% LESS care than you treat it yourself (especially true of non-boat owners). So if you set a high standard of care for the boat they will treat it with care as well. If you allow clean shoes on the boat, guests will walk on with dirty...

    OK WTF?

Just quickly off the top of my head I'd say there are 3 main features we miss: 1. Back swim deck, we miss that "back patio" when lounging on the water 2. Maneuverability, I've had all type of boats/propulsion, the twin jet boat has been the most maneuverable boat by far (albeit did take a bit to...

    OK WTF?

Here’s my 2 cents for what’s it’s worth. I come from a history of almost every type of boat. I recently sold my Yamaha 212X in favor of a Malibu. I absolutely loved my Yamaha and would recommend it still as one of the best all around family boats out there. I personally was looking to get...

House on the water or near it?

1000% on the water. Actively enjoying the lake whenever you can is great, but you can't underestimate being able to "passively" enjoy the lake which is pretty much full time. Whether its enjoying the view out your window sitting at the kitchen table or sipping coffee on your deck/patio in the...
