15+ AR240 tower fix?

Thanks @Scottintexas, the bolt mod could be done solo if doing one side at a time. Yeah I'll give it a try @swatski, seem to be a simple procedure to improve the existing setup.
Keep us posted! When you look at it and see how little of the bolt actually threads into the internal threads in the base/mount insert - you may like the idea of lengthening that, I think.

In my opinion, unless constantly checked, the factory bolts will pull out due to simple vibration and hull flex - a disaster waiting to happen. You do not need to be caught up in particularly bad weather, I don't think.

What about a piece of molded plastic the same shape as the knob, that slips over and clamps around the tower? Would take a little engineering, but should prevent the knob from backing out.

I just did a quick simple mod to make me feel safe. Just wish I had measured a little higher, dont know how I got so low. I have to lower my tower after every use so this works for me. It only takes an extra 2 minutes , maybe.
