2008 F150 4.2L oil leak

Changing the oil on Grandpa's 2008 F150 4.2L yesterday and found an oil leak, it's been going on for over a year, just a small drip but ends up as a big stain,

I originally thought it was the filter seal but after cleaning it and running it for 20 minutes it appears it's leaking from the filter mounting assy.

I read a couple of internet threads about a bad gasket mounting to the engine but this appears to be leaking out of the bottom ( I'm not sure what that circular "plug" is )

any ideas of if I need a new oil pump or something internal or better off just to live with the dripping oil ???

Online, there are a few housing gasket leak issues.

From the picture it looks like a round plug that screws in using an alan wrench tried to find it on the parts list but gave up on that so if it unscrews it may have a rubber O ring that needs replacing. my guess is the 3 pieces next to the body of the pump are inside of that location and the spring makes it appear to be some sort of pressure relief valve.

Not to sure on that one Scott. Never had the pleasure of seeing that engine but like posted above, if you can remove that plug that’s circled I’d try it to see if there’s an o-ring or gasket that can be replaced.

Have you decided what to do? I have a 2005 F-150 with a 4.2L.

currently I'm just waiting, the drip although annoying isn't a big issue,

next time I'm over there with dirty clothes on I'm going to crawl under again and look at the cap, from what I remember seeing it didn't look like a allen head inside but if that spring/piston are in there they could be removable,

thinking along jeff's line I thought it was some sort of relief valve but haven't found much about it,
