Not that I'm close to buying a v-drive , but I was wondering what thoughts are on what the list price and actual sell price for my boat might be? I'm trying to figure out whether to eat some cash on the trade-in or try to sell, but I don't want to sit on it long b/c it's just a pain.

NADA has it around 41-42k for average retail. They're offering $37 and I got them to a point on the v-drive where there really isn't any more room ($5,000 below nada average and & 20k below original).

I know you don't get a whole lot of price credit for MOD's, but sometimes listing helps the 'sell ability' .

-over tower camper cover
-wake wedge
-a few ballast bags
-Perfect Pass
-Thrust Vectors
-keelguard
-GPS sonar

I would think $37k would be a good offer on a trade-in. There is a 2013 LS for sale in the classifieds section here for $37 right now and there was a 2012 a little while ago for $38k.

I'm in the same thought as you are...to sell myself (and deal with the hassle) or if I can get a good trade price, turn it into a dealer and save some time and hassle.

Based on what you said above, it look like the price vs. what NADA says for it is about $5k...which gives the dealer some room to make a profit. I guess the question is: the hassle and time to sell your boat worth potentially $5k in the long run?

Sounds like a fair deal. I would think you could a make few bucks if you wanted to remove and sell stuff like perfect pass, the tower speakers and amp as long as it did not mess anything up cosmetically.

Don't know what your local sales taxes are but keep in mind that whatever you get for a trade in value gets taken off your sale price when figuring sales tax. When you do a private sale that is not the case. So lets assume 5 percent local sales tax. You save another $1,850.00 in sales tax on your new boat by trading in your old one. Save the hassle of dealing with trying to sell it, getting paid, and any income tax hassles next year.

Based on very nice 2015 240s that have sold in the low 40s I think the $37K trade in is a very nice offer that leaves little upside for the dealer. They must be making their money on the v-drive.

I live in MO and in my state you can get tax credit for a private sale, same as trade-in, as long as it occurs within 90 days of a new boat purchase.
In MO, you just bring the bill of sale to the DMV when you register the new boat. They do the math for your sales tax, so that you only pay tax on the difference. Sale must be within 90 days of new purchase.

I think that is a GREAT price for a trade in. I honestly don't see how you could do much better selling private, no way. And, that is not even considering the hassle of selling private. (just IMO)

I would take that trade in price in a heart beat that's very fair. I think getting $40+ for any boat that's not a 2015 or newer now will be tough because if someone is looking in that price range they are going to be only shopping for 2015 or newer boats.

Thanks everyone - I threw one more offer out, trying to get $3k adjustment in either trade-in, sale price, or pay for my slip this year (they own the marina). I'm really happy with the deal on the v-drive - $20k under original price and $5k under NADA, so that's good. Boat show is in a week, so they're putting a few deals out early.

@Belteddeep, if you end up getting rid of the Yamaha would you consider selling the over-the-tower camper cover or would that have to be part of the trade?

@sstegh - I'll let you know whether or not they are going to require it (don't think they will). Keep in mind that it's custom made for a 2013, though I don't think 2014 is any different. Just couldn't guarantee the fit. That said, it really is one of the best mods we did for the boat. I'm assuming you've seen the pics in this thread - I just copied what @sysinu did. https://jetboaters.net/threads/over-the-tower-cover-for-a-242ls.2785/

It was right around $2k to have it made - shoot me an offer over PM, if you're interested.

Well, after 3 weeks of looking at and negotiating with the dealer, I was able to finalize a deal this afternoon on a 2014 Malibu 24 MXZ. The Yamaha has been a Gr8 boat for me and my family (the most fun to drive boat ever), but with 6 kids ranging from age 4 to 19, the Malibu will make surfing and wake boarding a lot easier. Allows a few more people on the boat too. Excited to have the Surf Gate system. More pics to come in the spring...5978086_20161020165311979_1_LARGE.jpg 5978086_20161020165309401_1_LARGE.jpg 5978086_20161020165314587_1_LARGE.jpg

Nice, congrats man. I've thought about making the move to a wake boat one day when my son is older. The wake surf craze is driving the prices of these boats through the roof though. My neighbor has a 2016 Supra SE 450 and it's freaking sweet. Just can't get past dropping $100k+ on a boat though! When tied up I prefer the Yamaha, but when out for water sports his is the way to go.
