Me and the wife are thinking about taking the boy to Panama City the week of March 13th -17th for vacation , was wondering what to expect weathe wize , and if there is any thing we need to do while there ? And any area that we need to stay away from ?
I'm sure a lot of people from central FL colleges travel there plus all the other big schools in that area. Not sure if they rent boats as much as taking of the beach and bars.

I don't know how many times or how loudly I can say this...STAY AWAY FROM PANAMA CITY/PANAMA CITY BEACH DURING SPRING BREAK!!!!!!! Unless you want to deal with a bunch of drunk college kids, traffic, noise all night, etc. Let me say this again...STAY AWAY FROM PANAMA CITY/PANAMA CITY BEACH DURING SPRING BREAK!!!!!!! As @blacksapphirez said, check out Destin. @brockhals mentioned 30A - that's a must see, if not a must stay. Plenty of rental homes along that stretch and lots to do. We've stayed there twice and it's very pleasant and family oriented. Generally, anything west of the Carillon Beach Resort is good. Destin's Crab Island is a great hangout if you're taking the boat. My signature picture is taken there.
@ar240owner if you have a camper I would recommend trying to stay at Topsail state park at the corner of 30A and 98. It's very nice if you have a camper. They have cabins too, but I know nothing about them. They have a tram\shuttle that takes you to their beach. Or you can do like we did and go down 30A a couple miles to a public beach access which was much easier and a shorter walk across the boardwalk to the sand. Even though it was public access it was never crowded and we were usually there in the June\July time frame. Destin will probably still be crowded, but with mostly families instead of crazy college kids.
Yep, I went to PCB every March when I was in college. Holiday Inn Sunspree conveniently had a Waffle House across the street. I will say back then the Police were very polite and even gave me a ride home once or twice. We were all way too broke to have boats though. We were more the burying cases of Natty Light in the sand types.
I live in Destin and the month of March is our peak for Spring Breakers. We have a mixture of Spring Breakers and families. It is VERY active here, but it's nothing compared to what's going on in Panama City. And I have to agree with @brockhals on 30-A. Lot's of little towns to visit there as well. Seaside can get packed at times with Spring Break gatherings (the locals go there too), but it's not too bad. Me and the family were just in Rosemary Beach the other day. We enjoy driving out there.
Agreed, if you want quiet look at Mexico Beach or Cape San Blas. Those are sleepy little towns that time has passed by and still have the beautiful beaches and nice boating.
Thank you all for the info , me and the wife are looking at where to stay in destin , we are not taking the boat , but would like to go out on a boat , we might try to rent one , our if any one wants to go boating during the week and show off there fav sights (hint hint ) lol !!!
@ar240owner Look at the Emerald Grande. Not sure what you were looking at spending, but it's very upscale. It's at the foot of the Destin Bridge. They have a lot of shops, stores, and restaurants. They are on the water and in view of Crab Island. You can rent boats and waverunners downstairs.
Also, take a look at The Henderson. It's on the Gulf and very nice. Just built a HUGE section to it.
My wife is a realtor. She says you could check VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owner).
Would be glad to answer any other questions you have.
They have cracked down on spring break and the college kids that just want to party now stay away. There is no alcohol allowed on the beach during spring break and that ran them all off. Last year was VERY calm, just kids that want to hang out at the beach and not the rowdy crowds. They have decided families would be much better than college crowds. I don't miss the revenue at all! I live right in the heart of the beach. It was out of control for a while but that's all changed.
@ToddW850 Not to derail thread, but I too may be interested in speaking with your wife if she deals with beach condos/investment property. Would like some information on possibly buying a rental in the area.
