So in looking around the forum I've seen a lot of threads about fixing the anchor locker leak. There seems to be many ways to do it, from filling the gaps with 5200, adding tubing inside the current drain and filling with 5200 or adding a clam shell style cover to the outside hull.

So I thought I would share my $.02 here as well.

I found this on Amazon for less than $8. It just arrived today so I haven't installed it yet, but will post about it as soon as I do. It is much longer than the hull is thick, so I plan on installing without sealant, marking from inside the locker, and cutting off the excess before installing permanently. According to the dimensions it should fit pretty good and would only allow water to drain out and not rush in when backing off the throttle.

That's actually a pretty clever idea.

Great find @F.M.
Yamaha will probably follow your idea next year.

Nice
post a photo of the install

Did you install this yet? If so how did it work out?

I get a lot of water in the anchor locker when idling. This looks like it may prevent that.

Any pictures or tips would be great once you complete it!

Great find!

I'm headed to a friend's house as we speak to do some tag team work on our boats. I'll give an update later today.

They are a little over an hour away from me. I tried letting them fix it last fall and ended up leaving with the same issue. But in this instance $11 and 15 minutes in the driveway is easier than driving an hour and back to drop it off and then again to pick it up.

Their idea of a fix was ordering another drain from Yamaha, applying some clear silicone around the base and shoving it in the hole. They didn't even check inside the locker or clean up the mess of silicone that squished out onto the hull. I picked the boat up on my way out of town and I realized what they did, but didn't have time to argue about it with them. I've talked to the GM and he'd agreed that it wasn't correct and asked me to see him personally about any other issues.

Ah, makes sense. My dealer re-fiberglassed the entire thing. Looks a million times better.... and works lol

Why not just have your dealer fix it under warranty?
I had my dealer fix the unfinished gap on the anchor drain before I took delivery, but all that does is keeps the water that comes in to the anchor locker while at idle from seeping in between the gap. Water still accumulates in the locker while idling. I'd rather water not get pushed up in to the anchor locker in the first place.
This seems like not only would it not allow the water in, but it may act like a scupper for any water that gets in to the anchor locker depending on the water level, and the direction the exterior opening is facing.

Did your dealer do something different to keep the water out while under way?

Honestly - I haven't even looked at besides after they fixed it and knew right away the boat wasn't taking on water. I will look this weekend when out.

The issue I've noticed after the dealer fix is that I normally have a few inches of water in the bottom of the Anchor Locker when idling. It may also be exaggerated by having a couple people in the front section, so try that too if you don't see anything.
I think the hole is too close to the water line. It drains 100% when I'm on plane, and nothing comes in.

Have fun out there. Sunday's looking like a good boat day! It has been a bit chilly lately!

Yeah man, we had a great boating February and March has been crap so far lol. We are headed out to Bunce's (Ft. Desoto) on Sunday if you guys want to make a trip north.

I'll have to catch you next time, but I'll get up north one of these weekends for sure! My son is in a regatta over in Jensen this weekend, so I'll probably be wasting Sunday away driving back. :sour:

The install did not work as well as I'd hoped. The nut will not clear the sides of the locker. So I packed it with 5200 and taped it in place the cure. I didn't get any pics today, I'll snap a couple when I pull the tape off.

Bummer.
So was it an issue with actually getting the nut started (not enough threads), or was it that the surrounding area inside the locker wouldn't allow the nut to fit on to the end?
My boat is in storage, so I can't picture it.

The surrounding area would not allow the nut to fit. If the surface inside the locker were flat there would have been just enough threads for the nut to fit securely.

Got it. Thanks for the info, it still sounds like a good solution.
I ordered one from Amazon.

I finally had time to take the tape off. And then I decided to paint it grey to match the hull. I've got one small gap in the 5200 that I missed on the bottom side that I need to fill in. But all in all I think it will work.
