Broke the strap on the winch Memorial Day Weekend during retrieval Sunday afternoon. Really shallow ramp and I was trying not to power load, so I was pulling on it more than normal. I cut the busted section off, tied a bowline through the hook and finished up the retrieval and drive home.

When I did this a decade ago on the last boat, I just picked up a new strap from Walmart. Any improvements in winch strap technology since then? Any reason I shouldn't just do the same thing again?

Let me know your thoughts.

Just make sure that you get a strap rated for the capacity of the winch.
