Controlling a skid / slide while Trolling with the 210 FSH

Something like this is still on my project list. Trolling with the single engine is a chore, although haven't been trolling much lately. My spot lock does work overtime.

I can see that you are very excited about this project. Good on you for coming up with a creative solution to the problem. I cannot imagine what benefits this provides over installing the Cobra Jet or Thrust Vector products. They are a task to install and have a cost, but I have to imagine you must have spent about that much on your parts plus you have to manually manage the dagger boards.
These dagger boards provide 10x (maybe 20x?) more surface area to hold the boat. I have Cobra fins and they absolutely help with low speed tracking (trolling) and reduce the need for steering input, but don't prevent wind blown spin.

The lack of a skeg is a downside to a jet boat, but these dagger boards have solved that! Nice job!

In the short term one thing you can try while trolling is to put a drogue / 5 gallon bucket off the stern and tied off to the tow hook. Or although I never tried it, two smaller drogues off each stern quarter tied off to the stern port and starboard docking cleats, either of these will help reduce the skid while trolling. The further back the drogues are the more they will help, but you’ll have to deal with that when landing a fish.

Thanks Julian!

Outboard and I/O powered boats have a natural skeg from their outdrive(s), and these detachable skegs are a way to have the best of both worlds, shallow draft and yet stable for slow speed cruising / trolling.

The primary problem I have with fishing on my boat is bubbles from the motors messing with the transducer! Having a front mounted trolling motor with a prop and a transducer eliminates that issue. If I was into fishing more I'd buy an FSH and put the trolling motor with transducer on it no doubt.

Yeah I have that same issue sometimes.. when I’m trolling with the engines on my trolling speed is 2.2-2.5 mph and its not a problem, but if going slower than that with engines on sometimes its an issue… the transducer mounted on the trolling motor is a great thing, and the different types of sonar, live view and directional imaging, are nothing short of amazing-I have not gone that route yet, but would like to have a rear facing sonar so I can see what these damn persnickety Lake Trout are doing when they come up for a look at my lures then just go back to the depths they came from to check them out.. there are some good vids out there on youtube where guys put a camera on their line above the lures with the hooks removed to see what lake trout and salmon are doing, pretty interesting.

So far I’m still very happy with my 210 FSH, but someday I may get a bigger all season type boat with a cabin and heat for the shoulder seasons, and that boat may get the full sonar treatment. You know, that is what I should have put in the 2025 Yamaha boat wish list, well I sort of did with wanting them to bring their cabin cruiser made in Japan boats here, but as far as a wish list, a cabin cruiser type boat with at least three hard sides, four is better, with a heating system to enjoy those cool / cold days on the water in greater comfort, right now that comfort for me comes in the form of layering and warm gloves.. hmmm perhaps an electric jacket is in order.

But my all means, get out there and troll for fish! Its super relaxing and you get to cruise around the lake or the ocean. Lots of easy ways to get your baits down deep if you need to without going to down riggers. You’re not too far from the ocean, I think you guys get Jacks or Yellowfin out that way… hooking into one of those 50 pounders would be very exciting indeed!
