Better investment for SX192 - Bazooka amplified sub or new amplifier for stock speakers?

I think the sound system is pretty good on this small boat. However, the lowest bass (less than ~60Hz) is missing. I'm sure the stock Clarion receiver only puts out ~20 W/ch and the speakers can handle triple that. On the other hand, the receiver has a subwoofer out option and adjustable filters for the mains and sub. Taking the mid and low bass away from the main speakers should help them sound better. Can't decide and don't want the hassle of installing an amp and a sub. Price is similar

Amp...you'll get better bass and it'll be a hell of a lot louder. Just ask @haknslash

Both! Definitely amp first. I have a Bazooka and love it, but I do have everything amped.

Thanks, also trying to keep everything reasonable to avoid 2nd battery.

Amp is number 1.. especially is you have the polk db651's already.

I would go with the Amp, I am always amazed what a little external power will do for a speaker. Even stock speakers, if you have the db651s (I must have missed that somewhere) then you would really notice a remarkable difference. Check around for amps and price compare on the internet, I am amazed of the power versus price point on today's amps.

I have the sx192, so the upgraded gold woofer Polk speakers - don't know exact model

@texmo02
Here is my 0.02 opinion.
I think there is something truly magic about the combination of 4 Polk DB651s (cabin speakers - I think these are stock in your boat) and the Clarion xc1410 mini-amp (under $90 shipped from amazon).
https://www.amazon.com/Clarion-XC1410-4-Channel-Class-D-Amplifier/dp/B00B43LKV0

Many here have used that combo with great results. It is NOT expandable as that amp is not bridgeable (albeit it is 2 ohm stable), just 4 channels, that's it. It is also not tun-able (well, it does have some rudimentary selectable filter settings, but who cares).

I tell you - the sound of DB651s powered by that little xc1410 is ridiculous. Even if you do not consider the low price. It sounds amazing, WAY better than it should. I don't care about specs-shmecks, just listen to it.

When I was playing with my setup in another boat, I temporarily checked the xc1410 against the WS HT-4. Now, that is about as completely off the wall comparison as you can imagine. To me, the DBs sounded better with the xc... Natural, musical, fantastic bass, good volume. Of course I am not saying xc compares to ht-4! But the DBs and xc seem to pair up so well, it is supernatural.

If you are looking for a very inexpensive way to get a super nice sounding 4-speaker cockpit stereo system - I do not think you can do much better.

The only drawback of the xc1410 is relatively rigid/poor connectivity options, all is hard wired. I do not care and usually solder all connections, or you can use low-output RCA, whatever. Install is simple, tuning - pretty much non-existent. Sound - f*cking unreal, for what it is.

Oh, and I would not spend any extra on the xc2410. 1410 has the same power, slightly better specs actually if anything, just not bridgeable or tunable, unlike 2410. But you will not need that for the simplest of the setups.

The ones you have are DB651s. They are good speakers that sound better on amp power.

Not sure if you are interested or not, but i may be selling my JL Audio 4 channel amp, only have a couple weeks on it. I am going to upgrade to the Polk MM speakers and want to give them 100w each instead of the 70 watts the JL is putting out.
