I currently use 7 apps in order for a better boating experience.
My primary is my navigation app, 1-(Navionics).
In addition to that I use 2- (my lightning tracker), you can set a perimeter in miles around your location and get notifications.
3-( Windfinder) I get a forecast of wind speed and direction of wind in order to help plan my day.
4- A local app (lake Lanier) current water levels relative to full pool.
5- A (moon phase) app to plan night excursions.
6- A (barometer) app to predict acute changes in weather.
And 7- (boast US) for that unplanned emergency.
I am adding an eighth, ( anchor alarm) nothing worse than swimming and seeing your boat drift away!
thought it would be useful to share apps and experiences. Most of these apps I learned about from theYamaha Bimini / Bahamas crossings videos.

I find the NEBO app to be pretty good. It creates a decent daily activity log.

Honestly I just use my Garmin GPS unit (not an app) and Darksky. Never leave home without it. :)

I use:
BoatUS and FishAngler for weather, tides, sun/moon, solunar data etc as well as MyRadar for weather.
OpenCPN and Locus Map for navigation, charting, etc using free NOAA charts.
SeaBook is nice for mariner knowledge and info.
Fish Rules, Useful Fishing Knots, Useful Knots, FWC app for fishing.
Also have the USCG app and downloaded PDF files of ATON guides, Chart 1, all charts in the state, owner's and maintenance manual for boat, etc

Any issues with Navionics for you guys that cross lakes or take trips far off shore?? Thinking of crossing Lake Ontario to get to Toronto some time this summer with a group of boats. I have seen the app on friends phones and it looks solid, im just wondering how it works when cellphone signal is low.

I bought a portable WiFi unit for boat. Although iPad I use had cellular. Not sure If portable WiFi would help. You can use Navionics off line as well. You atleast have the depth marked on map to go by.

you can download an area on to your phone so it will work offline, I have an old iPhone with a big screen and lots of memory that I run it on without a SIM card in it. Just downloaded the maps I wanted on wifi ahead of time.

For me it’s pretty simple, I have an old IPhone 8X (I think that’s what the big ones were called) mounted beside the button/knob combo and run 3 apps on it.

Spotify - Download lots of music for offline
Navionics - Haven’t sprung for the paid version yet as I know the lake like the back of my hand, but would in a heartbeat if in new waters
GoPro - for remote control of the camera mounted on the back to capture everyone’s water sports fun!

1. Navionics on a dedicated Samsung tablet for navigation. This app is OUTSTANDING and if you are hooked to internet you get live buoy data, current tide info and forecasts, and even AIS signals if you have that set up with a receiver.
2. Raymarine Wi-Fish for depth (also integrates with Navionics to provide a split screen with depth and GPS map)
3. Coast Guard app on phone to check buoy data (also get this from Navionics if you're online)
4. Dark Sky for weather

I keep my weather data on my wrist. I can expand any of these for more details. Wind speed and direction, next expected rain, temps and tides.
