Anyone built their own vs the per-assembled speakers?

It doesn't seem that difficult and you can get a better speaker at a way lower cost?

1)Buy your marine rated speaker of choice.
2)Buy your enclosure of choice
3)Buy an amp.
4)Put them all together and boom!

What am I missing?

Anyone done this? If you did, did you add anything to the enclosure inside or just leave it open?

Thanks

I was looking at doing this until i realized the website i was sourcing from didnt ship to Canada. creativeaudio.net has speakers, enclosures and amps - sometimes even used - for sale. I already had an amp so i was just looking for small speakers and enclosures. Website has quite a bit of stuff.

I did. Bought the cans from eBay and the WetSounds speakers (Refurb) from Creative Audio (along with wire and amp). Worked great and sounds awesome.

I also modified some (cheap) swivel mounts to connect the cans to the tower. Here a pic of the install.

Thanks for the pix and input guys...Just need to figure out my build.

Anyone have any experience with Kicker or even fusion tower speakers?

I have all Fusion Signature in my boat - four 7.7's on the tower, four 7.7's inside, two 8.8's on the lower swim deck, and three 10" subs. I bought two dual pods from Rockville and put the 7.7's in the pods myself. Worked perfectly, sounds awesome.

Thanks @Coryd ... Thats what I'm talking about. System sounds awesome.

@flyingnugget No problem. Yeah it's pretty damn loud. The Fusion Signatures perform really well with full range sound, especially the 8.8's. I have 3 amps pushing them all and a 6 channel crossover in between the head unit and the amps. The amps were obviously needed to push all these speakers but the crossover makes a huge difference in allowing you to fine tune the levels and frequencies.
