Bunk Board Carpet....Best place to buy

Got my new bunks delivered today. I used the guy @MikeyL recommended. They look great. I wasn't paying attention when I ordered and I selected 2"x4" by accident. I sent him an email and he quickly sent me an invoice to change my order. All in all, took about a week to deliver.

I got the 2"x6" bunks carpeted with padding for around $300. Well worth it to me.

Thanks Mikey!

You''re very welcome.
It's all good when deals turn out nicely.
Best Wishes, Mikey

PS - Don't forget to leave him glowing feedback ........... that's all they ask.

Bill,

Did you reach out direct to order? My '07 SX230 needs x2 10' bunks and x2 5' bunks (2x6) I believe. eBay store I could only find up to 9' length. Did you observe same?

Thanks,
Mark

Well, you see, there's a funny story here... The reason I was replacing them is last week while crawling around under my boat, I noticed that the f%$#king UBB's had eaten away a good portion of the gel coat where the boat rides. So I decided that rather than do it myself, I would order the pre-fabbed boards so I can get them on ASAP... I mean the UBBs have only been there for 4 years, the week it would have taken me to DIY was way too long to wait.

Like you, I looked long and hard through his ebay store to find the ones I needed / wanted. I found the 5' ones and decided to get the padding because it seemed like it would prolong their life a bit. So I added them to my cart and went back to looking for 10' ones. I didn't find them, so I added the 9' and decided I would email him about it when I got the receipt. Worst case scenario, they're 6" short on each end... didn't seem like a big deal. So after some personal debate, I went ahead and purchased. Only to notice that I had added the 2x4 instead of the 2x6. :banghead: No big deal, I was going to email him anyways right? So I did, and he sent me an invoice for the additional $ to make them 2x6 (I think it was an extra $125 or something). I paid the invoice and got a shipping notification on Monday morning.

The only thing is, now that I have them I noticed that in my hurry to order, I also ordered 2 different colors. The long ones are black, and the small ones are charcoal gray... I figured that I had already been enough of a PITA so if anyone asks, I got the gray ones to match my gray cover. Haha.

Long story short, just email his ebay store and tell him what you want. He'll let you know if he can do it, how much it'll cost, and ask you if you want to proceed.

Just received my carpets in from ebay carpet guy and bought all the wood last night. Looks like great quality just like @MikeyL said it would be. Will update y'all on the result if I can put it all together tonight.

One question though... does anyone recommend gluing the carpet down to the wood prior to SS staples? In my head it seems like it wouldn't hurt.

A) You're right. It does not "hurt."
B) What makes this maybe not the best idea is:

  1. Gluing doesn't add anything.
  2. It takes MORE time.
  3. It adds unnecessary cost (ie, glue).
  4. It makes it more difficult if you need to perform a "re-do" in the future.

Other than that, it's a SPLENDID idea !

I think this was just a little overdue. image.jpg

Thanks fellas! I decided to go for straight carpet and follow along the DIY path. @Bruce thanks for blazing the trail in the FAQ.

@mark_m - You are more than welcome.

Hey !@ Y'all have a GREAT WEEK out there !
Mikey Lulejian - Out here bacheloring it for a week on a rainy and very wet Lake Oconee, GA

Can't remember

I used the home depot carpet and put 2 layers down. First is a strip that was glued ( I had the glue). The second was a wrap with staples. I spent some time with a plane rounding the critical edges. Cam.

I am going to do mine at the end of the season and I like the idea of two layers. Anyone see any issues with this?

Strongly suggest you do not do this (2 layers). This WILL cause problems.

But QUALITY bunk carpeting off ebay ......... and simply enjoy.

You will be pleasantly surprised at the results you'll enjoy !

I don't see a benefit of two layers. After the bottom layer crushes you'll have loose carpeting and will move and possibly pull off while loading. Also I see it retaining more water for your bunks to absorb.

I just ordered bunk board carpet from Chris (eBay boatcarpetsales). I talked to him on the phone, very nice and professional. Wow what a GREAT price on carpet. I was shocked that the carpet price included shipping.

Just received an email that my carpet will be delivered on Friday. Can I say excellent customer service!

Well, @MikeyL lives on! I just purchased bunk carpet from his ebay guy boatcarpetsales.

I hope to have it by the weekend.

Thanks @MikeyL ! You are still keeping an eye out for us.
