Can he hear the fuel pump engaging when he turns the ignition? Could be a fuse in the engine compartment for that side fuel pump.

If the boat was running fine up until it was shut down and won't retire, the following causes would be very unlikely.
If the engine cranks too easily intermittently, it could indicate a loss of compression in a cylinder (possibly a stuck valve)
If the engine cranks too easily and sounds like the starter is simply spinning, it could indicate a broken timing chain. But in an 05' very unlikely.

He had it open for over an hour trying to start it... @Andy S .. what happens if the wires come off .. the engine die?
The circuit is normally open and closes to disengage the power to the ignition coils, so a loose wire shouldn't prevent a motor from starting.

Check fuses in ECU area on back wall of engine compartment. On newer models round and screw off. Not sure on older models.

Yes, my 08 has a round cap with a fuse under it and a spare in the cap if i recall. Also one 20 amp by my batteries in a watertight single fuse holder.

I suppose it could be an isolated incident... maybe some corrosion on it that was removed when he pulled the plug off... anyway it doesn't seem like it is gonna be a hard fix!

Well.. .Thanks Mikey aka @bronze_10 for starting this...

It was very very odd situation.....

I got back to the dock, lifted it up on the lift, and flushed my right side motor out...

I pulled the breather off the top to smell to see if i had any smell of gas... NONE.....

I looked by the laynard and pulled the speaker off... no dice by the jiggles..

I then said F it.. i lifted the hatch where the fuel pumps go... Unplugged the electrical connection.... plugged it back in and BOOM she was good.... very flipping weird....

I did turn the motor on about 3 more times just to verify... Could I have hit some waves.. I was cutting and carving up out there today could it have come loose... Who knows.. I plan on going out tomorrow again I will fill everyone in more tomorrow...

Could it be a weird incident ? uggh no clue.

Overheat? And he missed the warning and it shut down? Doubtful but possible...

It could have been.. but it turned the motors off because the kiddo wanted to jump and do cannon balls... easy enough... it was running flawless before that....

Tried to start it back up.. I let it sit for an hour... even if it "overheated" after a little it would have been good right ? or am I wrong ? Hell if I know LOL

Since you shut it off, I highly doubt it was an overheat. My $ is still on the lanyard mechanism
/wiring.

What should I look at with it ? I can trace the wires if you think I should....just very odd

I bet the sending unit plug you unplugged and plugged back had a little corrosion on it preventing current, or the wire is loose on the plug.

Yeah, time for some electronic cleaner and some electrode grease

These boats take take a lot of power to start. Know pervious fact. If one engine starts and another chugs, it's 99% battery issue.

When u start it today let it idle and go back to that plug and wiggle it around and stuff.... don't undo it just wiggle it and the wife leading away as well... there could be a small bad spot in on of the wires... if ubcant get it to cut out.... go play..

@chess, you could bring an inline spark plug tester in your toolkit in case it happens again. This would let you know if you have spark or not. That will isolate fuel vs. electrical.

If symptoms continue, a quick compression check would not be a bad idea. Nice to have updated compression numbers each season with a boat from 2005
