Any thoughts on why and how to stop the clean outs from filling with water? Both plugs are seated correctly and insert and eject effortlessly. Next time out I am going to instal plugs in opposite holes.

Correct me if I'm wrong. When the clean outs fill with water it overflows into the engine compartment.

It should not overflow in to your engine compartment if everything is properly sealed. When people have plug blow out at speed it usually dislodges the sealed tube and then water gets in the boat. I always have water there also but I think it's more from launching the boat, tubing and stopping quick as I will get a wake over the back deck areas or just from people getting in and out of the boat.

water on top of the plugs is normal

It comes from coming off plane and the water flows to the area.. mine does it too.. I alway pull my plugs when I pull the boat out of three water so they don't have water sitting on them

Yes. Totally normal.

Great to hear this is common. I too always pull my plugs at end of day. Thanks to all for responses.

The water drains straight out of the boat from the drain located in the clean out tray.

When you have a plug blowout in the older boats, sometimes you'll get water to force through the hinged area and into the engine compartment right above the ECU.

It's my opinion that the water gets on top of the plugs by getting forced through the seal between plug and clean out tube.

yeah, scares the crap out of everyone, the first time you open that hatch and it's filled with water to the brim.
No worries though, as long as everything Inside that hatch is tight there should be no leaks.

All sounds good. What started this question was yesterday after about 5 hours on water (mostly beached, about 1.5 hrs driving), when I pulled drain plug there was more water than I expected draining from boat. I guess I better check the bilge and hose connections. And the scupper. It better not be the scupper.

@Ajax ... I just replaced my scupper valve.. in doing so I had to remove the large rubber tube that goes between my starboard clean out plug and the clean out tray. When we took it to the lake everything worked perfecr. When we pulled the boat out it had far more water in the bilge than what I thought it should.
I wad worried my scupper was leaking. The following week I did a scupper test by filling the bilge with water from my water hose... nothing leaked and the bilge pump came on to pump out all the water.. not problems there. That's when I noticed I forgot to pull the clear out plugs out to get the water off the top of them. The left one had several inches of water... the right one had none. It seems I forgot to silicone the inside of it after I reinstalled. The water wad coming over the swim deck and into the area and then into the bilge when we would come off plane.

Yes, I was going to add: I would be more worried if there was *not* water on top of the plugs. If there is still water collecting over the plugs, if means you have integrity in the cleanout port tube. If you regularly get none after running for a significant amount of time (like several hours), I would be worried that you are leaking that water into the bilge.

Besides, when you pull the plugs at the end of a long day, there is something satisfying about the woosh of that water leaving the boat. Kinda like she is sighing...

Plus you can douse your buddy by asking him to pull the drain plug at the same time!

I did that to my wife... Needless to say she wasn't very happy! Of course the boys and I got a good laugh from it.

@Ajax There are wrenches that you can get from this forum for the scupper. Here is the link.

Its not too difficult. Just to get in there is the PITA. At least for my 230. Not sure how it is for your 210.

Looks

looks to be the same. Thanks.
I strongly urge you to change it. It can be a boat saver. Many on here have change theirs and noticed cracks (including me) when removing. If it fails on the water your boat can be lost.

Yep as others have said...that's normal and happens when you come off plane fast and water comes up over the swim platform.
