I know nothing about lawyers and the judicial side of things, but I bet you are stuck with the boat. I've offered to let people "return" stuff they bought from me from Craigslist, but I am a fair person - I don't consider myself a scumbag. This guy you're dealing with, he sounds like a trash meister. I hope you have the title. Hopefully these other guys on the forum can point you in the right direction regarding legal stuff. But if you get some time, give that thing a good look-over, post some pics of the damage, and tell us anything else that's wrong. Maybe we can help you get on the water and turn this into a good experience!

The biggest issue I see with this, exception to the fact you were a victim of fraud, is that there is a discrepancy on the bill of sale as to what you paid. Whether it was his idea, or yours, to change the value, that is also fraudulent. So your only evidence going forward to fight this legally starts off with a bill of sale that indicates you bought the boat well under value, even though your statement is that you paid both cash and check of a higher amount. Even with documented evidence of year difference, I doubt that will be enough to gain a viable difference in value. For what it is worth, value is more dependent on condition and care vs straight age. I don't understand how someone can rip off others and sleep at night, but they seem to. Let it go as best you can and enjoy the boat if you can. Sorry this happened to you.
