Electrical questions for equipment

What amp are you considering and how far will you run the power wires?
@Bruce when anyone starts talking to me about amp stuff my eyes kinda glaze over and I get tgat 1000 yard stare. It's kinda like when someone is talking to u and they are speaking Chinese. ... I just kinda stare at them. I know nothing about amps and stuff. I have a buddy that's big into it. What I told him was, I want to add two more speakers, pull new speaker wires and maybe make the speakers in the cockpit pit larger than 6.5 so maybe I can here it when driving. But I was not looking to be one of the guys on the lake that can get 20 mph forward speed on their boat just by using an insainly loud stereo system... I just want better, not insanity. So which amp........ no clue!! Where I'm gonna put it? Ehh. I'm thinking, inside the boat somewhere! That's as far as I have gotten!!

If your going to run wires from the battery to the helm upgrade the wiring and add a block as mentioned. I also agree run the amp seperate. I have not installed my amp and sub yet but I have ran all the wires and these boats are pretty easy it seems to hide the wires and run them. I ran the wires to put my amp under the rear seat behind the drivers seat it will be mounted on the wall at the back by the engine compartment I wanted it out of the way but to still easily have access to it. My procrastination has been cutting the hole in the fiberglass for the sub ugh I'm dreading it.
@robert843 , thinking of cutting into my first erg lass for anything makes my skin crawl. There are things I would like to do like add a 2nd bilge pump with a 2nd discarded but....

I ran a fused 12vdc+ and a ground wire from battery to a Blue Sea 5025 6-position dc fuse block with ground to the port storage area. My vhf radio and fishfinder are mounted on dash above. The wire gauge calculator posted by @Bruce is a must use in order to provide the correct wire gauge/length for the amperage demand of the accessories to be powered.

I switched the junk factory head unit for a Fusion head unit with a better built in amplifier, upgraded the speakers and added another pair behind the swim deck back rests. I have a fourth pair that I plan to install in the bow. My total cost was around $700. Now we can enjoy the music even with the engines at full throttle on a rough day on the ocean and we have plenty of sound to fill a cove on the lake. We are not going to overpower other boats with external amplifiers but there is plenty of music for my family to enjoy with minimal battery drain.

@bronze_10 I do agree with @Bruce if your not keen on adding an amp a easy solution is to upgrade the head unit. I went with the Sony MEX100BT which was the most powerful head unit I could find and it was a huge difference. I plan to add another pair of speakers one near the captains and passengers chair. I still wont even amplify those I will just wire them to the rear speakers to bring it down to 2 ohms and it should still be more then enough power but even with just the four speakers I can now hear the radio while running but with the additional speakers i can keep the radio at a more moderate level. By upgrading the head unit you really wont need to upgrade the speaker wire either I probably wouldn't do that unless I was trying to run an amp that was pushing 75 watts rms or more.

U installed a fusion ud 750 this spring. I am gonna put the two behind the rear seat cushions this winter

U installed a fusion I'd 750 this spring.

You have a Fusion 750? Who needs an amp then? The internal amplifier in the Fusion 750 is rated for 2 ohm loads. You can run two 4 ohm speakers in parallel on each channel allowing for 8 speakers (4 pairs) connected directly to the head unit. You also get more sound for each watt of battery power consumed wiring this way.

Well when I turn it up it doesn't sound right...... I thought it didn't have enough power but maybe it's the fact i think i switched some of the ground wires by accident.. lol. At low to medium levels it's fine but if I turn it up the port side bow speaker starts to distort. And it pops and crackels some. Kinda suddenly sounds muffeled. Then u turn it down and its crystal clear.Maybe I should just try to sort out the wire situation first.

Do you still have the junk factory speakers? I thought mine were ok until I removed the covers and saw that almost all of the were cracked. I replaced them with Infinity 6x9 marine speakers. The change from 6.5" to 6x9 more than doubles the base output. Initially I had planned for eight 6x9s and a sub. After installing six of the 6x9s I decided the sub was unnecessary. I do want to install the last two 6x9s in the bow but have not gotten around to having the seat cushions modified.

No I replaced the speakers with wetsounds 6.5 at the same time.. nice speakers.. I'm sure it is something in the install! That idiot had no idea what he was doing..

Well I took the plunge tonight after watching my jl amp and subwoofer sit in my office for a couple months this thread motivated me to get out and do the install. Ran out of light by the time I was done but turned out good I will have to get better pics during the day.
