Excessive Water in Engine Compartment

Why is it leaking there? Is not that supposed to be the dry zone for the splined connection between the intermediate shaft and the driveshaft. Isn't there an o ring on either end inside that hose to prevent water from either side getting to the splined connection. That water looks like it is under pressure. What is going on?

I think I have a leak as well, so reading through this thread on what to check. Man I love this site. Will start my own thread when I start looking in the next weekend or two. Had a couple of gallons of water drain when we pulled the plug at least, but no other evidence of water in the engine compartment so far. Will do some testing soon. This info is fantastic!
I wouldn't worry about a couple of gallons, our boats just leak, pop up cleats, rub rail, anchor locker drain, cleanout tray hatch, if your bilge pump isn't activating (make sure it works) then trying to track down residual water will wear you out,

As long as you're aware of the potential and are monitoring it accordingly I wouldn't worry to much about it but don't let it stop you from learning about your boat, open the manhole cover before you launch, is it dry? open it while your at anchor, still dry?

A second bilge pump or at least a high water alarm in the engine compartment is always a good safety precaution incase your having issues while the boat is underway and you may not notice the bilge pumping (or not when it should be).

Hi Scott - thanks for the reply! Didn't mean to hijack this thread. But as a math person who loves data, what gave me some concern was the amount of water coming out after not having had much at all in the last few years. When i say a couple it drained for quite a bit - maybe 3-4 gallons rather than 2. And never having been close to that, it makes me wonder if a hose popped or is about to do so. So i'm going to do just what you suggested - open the manhole cover, take a look around, run the engines on the hose and check drainage, check the bilge pump, etc.
Thanks for the advice!! :) She is getting up there and bound to bust a few clamps and hoses at some point. We had to fix a fuel hose clamp about a month ago that was leaking. Running in salt, its amazing we haven't had more of it, but we have tried to do good annual maintenance (most) years.

I think you are still in DIY territory, if you want to try it. Nothing here too hairy yet. Pulling the pumps is easier than it sounds. Should be an FAQ up on it.

But I really would just try the flex seal on it. What can it do? Not work? Then you replace it like you were going to do anyway...
Yep flex spray with flex tape over it. That shit works pretty damn well to be honest
