Hello,

I have read many posts on the topic but don't think I was able to find a consensus.

My boat is wet slipped in salt water. After 5 seasons the intake ducts are badly corroded and need to be replaced.

Removing them was not that bad at all. Screws/bolts came out easily. Removing all the original black rubbery sealant attached to the hull was by far the most difficult.

Does anybody know what type of sealant was used at the factory? For sure the factory sealant has not deteriorated at all on my boat, even after 5 years in salt water.

The manual calls for SS (Silicone Sealant) without further explanation.

I'm leaning toward 3M 4200 as it is designed for parts that can be disassembled, while 5200 is designed for permanent bonds. Not sure 3200 will cut it as it will stay below the water line for several months at a time.

Opinions on what is best in my situation?

I would use 3m 4200 fast cure. You can get black. Or Life Seal in black. I have used both above and below the waterline. The lifeseal will cure and remain softer than the 4200. It is a silicone and polyurethane blend.

I agree with @zipper 4200. Even though its not silicone and is a pain to remove.
