GPS antenna plastic cover

I’d like to get one too when you’re ready @Bruce

This is the first test print of the “flat topped” design. The top is 1.2 mm thick and the sides are 2.4.

I do not have the GPS receiver to model from so I copied dimensions from @svana ‘s design. @Mainah that a print of Svana’s design fit correctly on his receiver. If there is a fit meant issue I will need to send out replacements.

Currently I have it sitting upside down filled with water to verify that it water tightness. With four solid layers of plastic on the top and six on the sides it should be.

What are your thoughts?

@Bruce I would humbly suggest sending one out to verify dimensions before printing the others so you don't have to reprint if they are off slightly.

You make a good point. I do not want to get too many out there before verifying fitment. I did verify that it mates with @svana's model.

My reasoning is that an amateur 3d printer like myself might adjust the model dimensions to compensate for printer calibration, so the model may not match 100% with the external dimensions needed if both printers are not calibrated correctly and the design was "adjusted" to compensate for one printer's miscalibration. Only speaking about my potential misadventures in the past, no judgement to anyone else :)

@Beachbummer, I agree 100%. Slicing reduced the ID by about half a mm compared to the print of Svana's model. So I just modified the design to remove one layer. I try to draw in actual layer width and height increments. Mainah's confirmation of fit was with a print from my printer using the same gcode that I am taking measurements from.

Ah, Nice. If the other print was yours too and you know it fit, you might be all set, but since the design changed it wouldn't hurt to have someone double check fix. Many times I have to print things a few times and I hate having that extra printed filament go to waste. Looking forward to pictures of the printed parts in the wild!

The factory cover may be breaking due to being overtightened. I think I should add a rubber seal to provide a watertight seal to the fiberglass and provide a little bit of squish without breaking anything.

I am thinking that adding this rubber seal to the bottom will provide enough squish to tighten the screws without cracking the legs they screw into. I believe that was the issue with the factory part.

This one held water all night.

These are the color options that I have on hand.

@Ronnie, I really like how the black turned out.

I’m down for a black one, let me know how to pay you, no rush as I’m just buying one as a spare for the day mine fails. Mine has been in direct Sunlight or under a softcover get hit by direct sunlight for 8 years now, I figure it’s only a matter of time. Just reuse the screws from the stock unit correct?

A completely new case for @Neutron. Major thanks for sending your broken unit.

This is @Neutron’s base in a new top. My thinking is that the best way to seal this is with the black external seal or if you do not like the look of the black seal apply a small amount of silicone to the inside of the top where it will create a seal between the base and cap.

I wouldn't be turned off by a black rubber seal. It makes more sense to have one
