Hey everyone - wanted to reach out because my first outing with the boat did not go as planned today. A breakdown of what is happening with my 2014 212ss (150 hours).

1) test drove the boat two days ago for a while, and it ran fine. Previous owner installed a new battery the day before we test drove it.

2) launched the boat today, and both engines started right up. Ran great to start.

3) right engine randomly would cut off. The first few times we would be able to start it right back up.

4) as it started happening more, it began to take a few tries to start. Would try to turn over but not get there all the way. Just hung out and waited a while and it would eventually start (after putting a bit). Right engine every time.

5) threw the anchor down and hung out for about an hour. When we tried to head in the left engine was trying to turn over, but also wouldn’t. Right engine didn’t respond at all - no turning over, dial non responsive, etc. got the left engine started heading back to boat launch. Halfway there we got the right engine going and we’re able to get back.

I’m more confused because at times it would try to turn over, at other times it seemed like the battery was completely dead. Especially confusing with a brand new battery. Any help with this is greatly appreciated!

Check the battery connections and the battery switch connections if you have one. The nut started backing off on my starter battery switch and created mayhem/I suspect a blown fuse block.

Also clean the ground wires at the engine and check the rear hatch switch for that engine

I agree, check the engine kill switch which are little white switches that pop up when you open the hatch. Sometimes they need to get raised or lowered. Also, if your hatch isn’t locked, it could bounce around and not be closed enough to engage the switches.

Another thing to do would be to “exercise” the lanyard kill switch A few times.

and you need to put the "[USERGROUP=9]@HELP[/USERGROUP]" in the body of the post for it to send the alert out to everyone,

This was something I found on previous forums while on the water. Tried taking it off, putting it back on. Moved it around to several positions. Didn't seem to be it

If an engine or both engines are dying when crossing a wake the kill switches under the cleanout port hatch cover may need adjustment or the hatch door may need to be locked.

Taping or glueing a coin above the switch actuator is a good way to test for this issue.

I think we have our culprit…… thank you everyone for the much needed help. As a new owner, I am very relieved that this is the issue.

looks like the kill switches where the plug cleanouts are weren’t being pressed all the way because the handle is missing on the right side. Wife cleaned the boat after our test drive which makes sense why it worked fine then and not yesterday. I think the previous owner had this sitting just right, and when we shut the door it just wasn’t sitting right.

on a very related note…. Where is the best place to buy new handles? A lot of ours are beat up so I might just replace them all now. Thanks again for all the help!

You are a lifesaver!

Looks like there may be some indentions where the switches contact the hatch. I printed and placed a piece of plastic on the bottom of my hatch cover at that spot. A piece of 1/8” thick cutting board could be glued to the underside of the hatch in that spot.

I believe these latches are similar to the broken latches. Amazon.com : Mxeol Marine Cam Latch Boat Hatch Pull Stainless Steel w/Fasteners (Pair) : Sports & Outdoors
Ordering new latches and doing this for sure. So relieved it’s something simple!

Just laser cut this piece today and installed new latches last week. Was using a shim until I could get to my laser cutter.
