Marine Max in Greenville SC. Service manager was a total jerk about the whole thing. Lost my business and it wasn’t even my boat. The boat came back with a flat trailer tire, dead battery, and a misdiagnosis... that’s enough for me.
A low battery could be why the compression was low....normally for a compression test you take out all the spark plugs for an engine and then have someone crank the engine while moving the gauge from cylinder to cylinder (usually rather quickly)

When they got to cylinder 3 the battery could have been getting low and not spinning the engine as fast. If they then put all the plugs back in before or otherwise waited a bit before testing the second engine the battery may have recovered enough to give a good reading for the first two cylinders again.

Doesn’t excuse there incompetence but maybe there wasn’t nefariousness.

This actually makes some sense. The battery was completely dead.

But also shouldn’t a Yamaha dealer know that? Lol

I'm looking to buy a year newer that mine, 2015 242 LS. Only 38 hours on the engines. Riva did a compression test on the engines and it came back 95/100/100/105 on STBD and 105/100/95/105 on PORT.

The boat had sat for a long time, I'm wondering if the batteries were low like you said, but again, wouldn't a dealership know that? What else would cause that low of compression on an engine with 38 hours?

The minute I started this thread and saw the Clemson paw, I was thinking it may be the Greenville Marinemax. I HATE that place and will never go back again. Long story that I won't bore anyone with, but they did me pretty bad a couple times as well. Service manager was a complete jerk with me as well.

I will say, after my terrible experience there, I have been using Captain's Choice in Leesville and they have been great so far! If you or your buddy need an actual dealer, it is worth the extra drive for sure!
