A low battery could be why the compression was low....normally for a compression test you take out all the spark plugs for an engine and then have someone crank the engine while moving the gauge from cylinder to cylinder (usually rather quickly)Marine Max in Greenville SC. Service manager was a total jerk about the whole thing. Lost my business and it wasn’t even my boat. The boat came back with a flat trailer tire, dead battery, and a misdiagnosis... that’s enough for me.
When they got to cylinder 3 the battery could have been getting low and not spinning the engine as fast. If they then put all the plugs back in before or otherwise waited a bit before testing the second engine the battery may have recovered enough to give a good reading for the first two cylinders again.
Doesn’t excuse there incompetence but maybe there wasn’t nefariousness.
