How to clean up boat before sale?

I was thinking $6-6.5k after cleaning her up but if someone showed up with $5k today I would probably let her go and move on...

Well then there ya go...advertise it for 5k FIRM and it will be gone in no time.

Or not.

If it doesn't get any bites, reel it back in and clean it up and put it up for sale at a price that will recoup some of the money you spent cleaning it up.

I thought about doing it that way--advertise $5.5k FIRM and then lowering it to $5k if I have to since even if you advertise "firm" everyone wants a discount.

I think a $300 to $350 buff and wax will gain you around $1500.00 to the final price, netting you around $1200.00 I would definitely have it buffed and waxed, people like shiny things, if it's all nice and shiny the scratches will almost disappear. I think they show a lot because you were focused on them and the hull is really oxidized.

Just got done with a little buffing action myself. Had to cut the oxidation off of a plastic lens that covers perimeter beams.

List it for $6500 and let them talk you down to $5k. Never know, somebody might show up with a HELOC and just cut you a check for the full $6500. If they grind you down to $5k then they think they got the best deal ever. I might watch too much Fast and Loud :)

I got a call today from someone on Angie's list I emailed the other day about buffing the boat--he wants $20 a foot, or $400, and said he wasn't sure if he could buff out the scratches or not. I've seen prices on Craigslist of people doing it for $10-$12 a foot--but who knows what kind of job they would do.

Is $10 - $12 a foot for buffing? I would guess that might be for applying wax with a buffer.

You need a multi stage process with rubbing compound, polish then wax. If you can get that for $400 it sounds like a good deal to me.

@xoomer Go for it! Your boat will look so nice afterward that you won't want to sell it ;)
