after 10 years and 2 jet boats im getting out for now.... I worked with a custom boat builder and had a custom boat constructed and it was delivered last night... not leaving the Yamaha Fold tho as it is getting a new 2.8L F200 outboard next week and I am robbing the radar, and the wetsounds/NXL/Kicker 10 speaker sound system out of my AR-210... I have a local Jetski mechanic that is really interested... All CAD/CNC, Fusion welded HDPE 3/4" thick hull, 1" thick tube... f22354678a6d954f6eaaff8da0c06c26e504b033-4.jpgf22354678a6d954f6eaaff8da0c06c26e504b033-3.jpgf22354678a6d954f6eaaff8da0c06c26e504b033-2.jpg

Sick design! So are the hull "tubes" actually pressurized? Any worry about a puncture? I imagine with a 200 that thing will rip - installing a jack plate at all?

thank you, it took us about 15 days in total to complete the design and 30 days to build and rig, it only looks like a RIB !!! the hull tubes are not pressurized they are sealed water tight and 12 ID inch 1" thick walls so they are structure, flotation, and rub rails all in one... they are essentially industrial king Starboard... a 8 lb sledge bounces off, CFD modeling shows 40+ knots with and F200 on a 8" set back SeaStar Xtreme jack plate... no need for hull paint and you can leave it set in the water without worry... HDPE is "slippery" so I had to order special 3M high tack adhesive for the registration numbers..

remember HDPE is ~70% the density of water so the hull material itself floats. and the flotation requirements change over 20' LOA so I gain as much of the underdeck as I want.. I also got a full fusion 360 cad drawing as part of the delivery package...

Man am I feeling you. Up here in the PNW our boating seasons are short and I am looking to maybe go the aluminum route. Of course with our winter time weather it will be an enclosed cab (Hewescraft, North River, etc....).

I was happy with the jet boats for a good long time... I was hot after a Munson twin jet drive cat hull landing craft 28 footer but the price was Ugly... I looked at all those welded aluminum boats and like the approach I wanted something that would survive in warm salt water and be less maintenance intensive... I settled on a two boat strategy and standardized on Yamaha F200 2.8 I-4 outboards. and the welded HDPE fit the bill... the company makes HDPE commercial barges and work boats mini jet boats and such as well...

Yeah, once you get over 22' the aluminum boats get PRICEY. Seems like they go from reasonable to $250k immediately.
