JetBoaters.net Bimini Fling June 19 to 25 2016

I will quote the first part of the original post on the first page "Bimini has always been a loosely organized event with group crossing" for those who are hell bent on crossing and want to cross on Sunday or a different day dont feel obligated to stick with the pack. IF there are several who want to cross on Sunday or another day get together make reservations and do so. Now I do say all this with caution as well and make sure if you decide to cross a different day you do not do so by yourself and that your group has all the saftey equipment you guys need for the crossing. Experience, boat size and family comfort ability should all be thought about in that choice as well if you have crew that complains when its rough on the lake you may not want to cross with them. Once again I'm not saying that anyone should or should not cross but just saying the only person who can truly make that choice is you. I will admit I would probably not cross in 6ft seas on my sx240 that just sounds miserable I would be picking another day to leave even if I only got a couple of days in Bimini or I would just fly over any way its only 30-45 minute flight.

Sunday is recipe for inexperienced boaters dying out there.

Quoting my earlier post "Sunday looks like a trap to me. You head out in water worse than the 2015 crossing forecast. If you can go 20 to 25 you will probably be ok. But if you take longer you end up in water that is more than twice the size that you started in. "

As of now, I still plan on driving to Ft Lauderdale. Our plan B would be from there. @Bruce keep us posted.

So when we looking at Cancel if we do?

My family will make our decision on Friday morning. Others who are closer may be able to wait longer. Some will head to alternate destinations. The Keys look nice and are forecast to have good water. Panama City has always always looked like fun to me.

Hopefully the water conditions will improve for our trip as planned. If not my family will plan to go to Bimini when they do.

If you guys can't make it crossing ICW is nice I'm in the Saint Lucie/Stuart area and we have some nice sandbars and islands and great scenery through Hobe Sound Nature Preserve up the Loxahatchee into Jonathon Dickenson State Park. Despite rain the ICW is usually calmer. I hope you guys can make it and the stars align but there is a lot to do in South Florida or on the trek back North for a lot of you. The springs are amazing in Central/North Florida also. Maybe you can find other places on VRBO somewhere to make a few day stop at?

I will make amends to siesta key florida....most beautiful beach in the world per the travel channel. Message me if you want in the conversation if interested or partially iterested. We are committed to florida worst case...who is in ...lol....praying on bimini tho...

My heart is broken I really needed this trip I have until Thursay at work to cancel my vacation and use it another time, so I guess that will be my cut off Plus I'm worried about getting stuck over in Bimini and having no lodging for the extra night/nights
Ugh Mother Nature!!!!!

Even though I have 17 years of boating experience, 99% of it is on inland lakes, I'm certainly not an expert boating in the open ocean. I'm going to follow Bruce's lead on this one. If he doesn't think it's a good idea than I'm out as well. I really don't want to make a 1350 mile drive with a rig behind me to experience the current weather and water predictions. It just doesn't sound like fun to me and I've so looked forward to this trip for years. 3-5 foot seas in any body of water just plain sucks, especially in the ocean for several hours. The rain forecast all week in Bimini is also an issue as noted by several.

I was planning to leave Thursday night, about 8 PM, so unless the weather forecast changes I think I'm going to make other arrangements, which just totally sucks as I've spent considerable time getting the boat and trailer ready for this adventure.

Let's hope things change radically.

Hey I am starting to formulate plan B just in case. I have reservations in Savannah on Friday, and Ft. Pierce on Sat. I currently plan on going to Bahia Mar and checking to see how the conditions are and what everyone decides to do as we get closer. I know there are a few members from the Florida area here who can make suggestions and I've considered checking out the Keys too! Let me know what plans we might formulate as an alternative!

We plan to go ahead and go to ft lauderdale as of now for our 2 days at Bahia mar because it's not refundable for me. Then we will go from there, unless we know for sure to cancel then we will go to Wilmington, NC for the week since we have a free beach house for the week.

I live just north of Clearwater Beach on the west coast of Florida. There is probably some of the most beautiful islands out here that are not accessible by the public, only if you have a boat. The islands are called the Anclote keys. I used to live in Sarasota . Siesta Key is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world because of the beautiful Sugar Sand. It is heavily touristy and not very boat friendly there at the beach. Just south of S Sarasota is Venice Beach. There's a beach there in Venice that is very unique in the world the beach sand is literally black. It is black because it is actually crushed up sharks teeth. I would like to take my boat down there and go shark tooth hunting off of the beach. But you could find lots of sharks teeth on the beach. Just make sure you wear flip flops The sand can get very very hot.

Wait a minute I'm not so sure about this hanging out in Florida thing! Let's all hope the weather clears to cross! Haha

Is that a dragonfly ? Or a fairy ? LOL. I'm doing my part - I've never stopped hoping for favorable conditions the last 10 months.

I'm a little biased for Clearwater also since I grew up there and all my family still lives in the area. Like @chris24 said Clearwater and surrounding island and some of the best beaches anywhere. One to checkout is Caladesi Island which is on a lot of lists of the 10 best beaches in the US.

Anna Maria Island is one of my favorites, but the whole strand from Longboat Key up is gorgeous. Haven't ventured much past them.

I nominate @Andy S to lead Clearwater 2016. He needs to take that nice new boat somewhere!!!!
