We wanted to post this bulletin here as we know many of you will share the word with others who may ask.

Today we got some feedback from two of our customers who have been running the new 24 foot JetWash Deflector in tandem with Yamaha's Wake Booster. Their findings?

DON'T DO IT!

This image is an example of what can happen when the flow of water coming off of the booster comes into contact with the side of the JetWash Deflector.Bent JetWash Deflector.jpg

Here is an image of our updated website text regarding the combining of the two products.

Some are going to ask so I'll answer this here. Last year some Thrust Vector Wake users had some success combining the jetwash deflector and the booster, but bear in mind that this was the original narrow white deflector, not the new wider black deflector. We have advised for 24 foot boat owners to send back those older deflectors in favor of the new wider pivoting version so this will not likely be something that will continue to happen in the future. Again the wider pivoting black jetwash deflector will not work in tandem with the wake booster.

Any plans to make a new version that is compatible? Also, can we assumed you warrantied the two customers that UAT’d that combo for you???

We are actually replacing for them.

Hey Will...any update on when you're sending the new jet wash deflectors out? I haven't seen mine yet.

And good to know on the new deflector with the Wakebooster.

Here's a screen shot of the wake this weekend. 242x E-Series. ~1/2 tank of fuel. Rear internal ballast full. Three people on board. In about 10 feet of water (I know we should have about 20'). This was using the old jet wash deflector and the Wakebooster in Combo. I also typically put 400lbs of additional ballast on the swim platform but alas was too lazy to do that this weekend. O

Nice looking wave - not a lot of height, but good shape. How did it push?

When did you ship in your white deflector? I shipped mine in back in February.

I had not heard either, so I emailed off on Monday. They had said their parts received were enough to handle the first shipment of 24' deflectors. And mine would go out on Monday/Tuesday.

I got a shipping notice late on Monday and even a follow up call to confirm my deflector was being shipped Monday night or Tuesday morning. Which was cool.

Cool, not cool, as the tracking number for UPS showed that a label was printed. And after checking a couple times, hoping the package would get here by the weekend. And to my dismay, he UPS site shows this. Bummer.

It pushed OK. I like the actual butter board better than the Yamaha branded one (even thought the two are very similar) as it seems to have a better push.

I also didn't realize we were suppose to send in the original spray deflector in order to receive a replacement. The only communication I've seen on it has been on jetboaters.net and I thought Will was sending out the new deflectors to those of us who have 24 foot boats automatically.

Where is this product located on JBP? I went to the website looking for more information but couldn't find it?

It's a part of the Thrust Vector Wake package, not sold separately. They work in conjunction with each other, that is why.

It’s a component of the Thrust Vector Wake system. Not sold individually.

Here is a big point to make for us with 24' boats. The white jetwash deflector was not doing as much as what it does on the shorter boats. The new deflector should be a great improvement.

I had a nice conversation with Will the other day as he was explaining some of the latest improvements being added to that 24' deflector and why it has been delayed. It all makes sense, and Will is doing everything for our benefit.

That being said, this is not going to stop me from surfing this summer. As the spray knockdown from the TV-wakes on the nozzles is an amazing improvement in itself. The Jetwash deflector is there to clean it up for surfing. So while I wait for that new black beast, I know that I can surf the wave I have already.

I am just filled with anticipation of a truly clean wave when it does finally ship. So for those asking for the deflector on it's own, understand that what the TV-wake fins do is essential to start with. And we have enjoyed less spray while tubing and boarding, as that is what they do at those speeds.

Hey guys and gals, another update which I will also post in a new thread. I've been calling all of our 24' JetWash Deflector customers (the ones I have on my report which could be missing a few names) over the past three days and we've been notifying recipients about a potential safety issue associated with the 24' JetWash Deflector. Apparently during the process of moving from prototype to production product some of the dimensions on the product changed and our built in tolerances somehow were diminished.

We had a customer contact us early this week reporting that he'd felt a momentary binding in the steering wheel while using the JetWash Deflector with his Thrust Vector Wake. He stated that he felt like it was there and then it was not there. He later discovered that the tip of his Thrust Vector Wake fin was making contact with the lower portion of the JetWash Deflector's lowermost tab, when pivoted all the way over to one side. I immediately asked him to verify if his fins were adjusted correctly, which they were. I then also verified on a local boat here that his report was accurate. We immediately issued a complete recall of the 24' JetWash Deflector.

We'll be sending out a bulletin on Monday to all customers who've been contacted to give more detailed info about what we're going to do to handle this. If you received the new 24' specific JetWash Deflector and did not receive personal phone call from me, please reach out to me via PM, with your phone number and I will contact you asap. I am personally handing this and am making this my highest priority.

Following the email blast with info, we'll be sending out call tags to all those who received 24' JetWash Deflectors. This will allow us to get them back here. Modify them. Ensure their proper function and also to address a few other suggested improvements while we're at it.

Some are going to ask why we did not do a full beta test on this product prior to its launch and my response is that we had every intention to do just that, but with Covid, being short staffed and our sales exceeding our wildest forecasts, we simply did not have the bandwidth to pull it off. I had promised a spring to early summer delivery and many had been waiting since mid 2019. I understand the beta test should have been done. It was not. We own that and we're doing the right thing to remedy it quickly. We immediately issued the recall upon hearing of the first possible safety concern.

Some have asked for a timeline and my response has been that I do not have one at this time. I will be working quickly on this and it will be my highest priority, but this sort of thing will include a modification, a test and possible re-test. Then sending out beta testers. Waiting on their response. Then making adjustments and retesting again. Followed by at least 3 enhancements that we feel are needed based on suggestions received during phone calls this week. So as you can tell it will take some time but it will be our top priority.

For anyone who would like more info please feel free to PM me or email at will@jetboatpilot.com. I'm available pretty much around the clock.

Is there any hope of creating a deflector in the future that is compatible with Yamaha’s wakesurf system?

Isn't that the point of Yamaha's integrated wake booster....to deflect jet wash? Are you saying it's not any good?

Not at all it’s purpose. It comes nowhere near deflecting the jet wash only capturing water coming around the edge of the hull and redirecting it for a better surf wave. For what it does it’s great! But jet spray behind the boat for tubing is impossible without a LONG rope or something to deflect it

Our deflector for the 21 foot models will deflect some spray at higher speeds but not sure if it will accomplish what you're looking to do. It was designed to help clean up the surf wave. Some have reported that adding the deflector helped clean up the tubing spray too, but that feedback is not consistent from user to user.
