Hi! I'm looking at buying a 2021 Yamaha 212S and I asked the seller if there are issues with weeds/ etc getting sucked up- he told me the newer Yamahas have "screen protection" that fixes that problem. Can anyone confirm this? I'm new to the gulf and have only boated on lakes before so I'm debating between a jet boat vs an inboard with a prop. My family will mostly cruise around and wakeboard. Can jetboats handle the choppy gulf waters?

Any advice is helpful!

I had a 2016 SX240 and took it out in the gulf here near Tampa. It's like any other boat just keep an eye on the winds and the size of waves. We sucked grass a few time mostly right after storms when it gets bad.

Thanks! Ever heard of the "screen protector" thing the seller mentioned?

That might be a thing on the new model. We had a blast with ours. We are near Tarpon Springs.

No such thing as a "screen protection" on our boats. There is an intake grate but that is with every model and it doesn't really prevent ingesting weeds. I boat in the gulf primarily and I try to steer away from any patches of them while out. No real issues in the gulf but then again I don't go out if the waves are going to be taller than 3ft or so, that is an uncomfortable ride, would not recommend it.
