Hey guys first time posting and looking for some help coming from Destin FL! Was getting max rpm but the classic 10 mph max cut off at 7000+ rpm..if I throttled down to around 6000 I could get a few more mph no prob but not close to where I should have been…after combing through threads for hours I’m hoping there is something stuck in there that is potentially causing this as the boat has ran well all season so far…what is the best way to clear any obstructions and are there any videos ? I see on the Yamahas it’s easier with their pull out filter under transom but what’s the best way on the Scarab? I also had the check engine light fire up on me too. I just wanted to trouble shoot myself correctly and properly before I need to seek out a professional ! Thanks!

I'm new at this but thinking coat hanger or two for the quickest, easiest go to tool.

So two parts to this.

Your check engine light often comes with an error code. It sometimes flashes on your screen when you turn on your dash. If not, in the settings, assuming the code is still active, you can cycle through menus to see it as well. Please look for it. Having this code would be important.

Obviously the check engine llight vs. speed problem is likely. If you had an obstruction, typically it will manifest itself as a high vibration. Very obvious. So I don't think that's the problem. But in case, you can look through the intake grate with a flashlight and through the jet nozzle at the back as well. A tiny twig can cause this problem, so you have ot inspect around the entire perimeter of the impeller properly. If you find something, long needle nose pliers or other to pull it out. If it won't budge, then the "big guns". Removing the pump FROM THE STERN NOT THE INTAKE GRATE. The grate is UN-removable. DO NOT TRY TO REMOVE IT. The easiest way is to remove the pump from the back. With experience, this takes about 15 min with basic tools.
