Loose Steering 2020 212s

I have a 2020 Yamaha 212s. It seems that my steering wheel is loose. When I line up the steering nozzles with the steering wheel I placed a piece of tape on the top of the steering wheel so I knew when the wheel and the nozzles were straight/lined up. However it seems as if the wheel is loose for when out on the water it no longer seems to line up. When I placed my boat back on the trailer i manually straightened the nozzles but the tape on the steering wheel was way to the left. Is this normal? How can I tighten the wheel so this does not happen?

Disconnect the steering cables from both nozzles, turn the key on make sure the cables are moving when you turn the wheel.
Now go all the way to the left and put some tape on top of the wheel remember the key must be on then turn the wheel to the right and put a piece of tape on top of the wheel. Now align the 2 pieces of tape so they are dead even aligned with the floor of the boat now put a piece of tape on the top of the wheel between the other pieces and then be sure it is dead center straight line to the floor. Note the tape is on top of the wheel but we are using the floor as a base for a 90 degree alignment with the floor.
Now secure the wheel in place and have someone hold a level across the openings of the nozzles. and adjust the cable ends back to the steering arms of the nozzles now the nozzles should be aligned , you can also add a very slight angle to the nozzles so they are shooting the jet water ever so slightly away from each other .
I use my patented tie rod set up to hold the nozzle alignments rather that the cables as that is more reliable.
Once this procedure is followed you should be all set with the nozzle alignments You can actually measure the travel to each side by each nozzle and confirm it is even.

You would need to track down exactly why it is loose it could be a number of things if you have someone hold the rudder while you move the wheel side to side it should give you an idea of where the issue is coming from , I don't work on that end of the steering systems . You may want to inspect the small collars where the bolt goes into the steering arm of the nozzle I think Bruce still makes those if you need them .
