Hi - I am in Australia and looking to buy a 2006 Sugar Sand Tango Super Sport with a Mercury Sport Jet 240. Unfortunately the boat is on the other side of the country so I can't personally inspect it, but will get an independent inspection done.
I have been reading about the SJ 240 and it seems to be reasonably reliable if well maintained and I also believe there are no real issues with jet unit. But since this is an older motor I wanted to know if parts are still easily and affordably available for both the motor and jet. I am an experienced car/motorcycle mechanic so will be able to do almost all the required maintenance and repairs at home.
Anybody have any direct experience or knowledge of these and what I should be looking for ?

Thanks

On a side note boat (and car) prices have skyrocketed since Covid hit. Last year I could have boat several Sae Doo Speedsters (the ones with twin 110hp motors) for $6-8k. 2 months ago one sold for $12.5k, then in the last week one with 4hrs on 2 rebuilt motors sold for $14k, one with a rebuild required sold for $9k and one with 1 rebuilt motor jsut sold yesterday for $19k !!!

Parts are readily available for the most part, it's just a 2.5 outboard powerhead that Merc built for many years. Parts can be kind of high especially if you go though Mercury. Fun, highly maneuverable and fast [60 MPH], my kid has the same Tango and loves it though he's gonna buy a new Yamaha next year.
