You can typically test the ECU yourself with YDS software at least if you're checking for the typical injector driver failure. You can confirm that by swapping ECUs and/or injectors. I don't think they are related but can cause similar symptoms. You can't overfill these engines. If you do run with a bad ECU long enough you'll get excess gas in the oil and it will ruin the air filters.
