No hot dogging like that for me. Five people or more and we are in the boat. I lprefer to enjoy my HO (i mean high output waverunner) solo or with one riding partner, which is the main reason i bought another fx.
Check this out, a modified ride plate that is supposed to increase top speep over stock by 4 mph. If i got one it would be for the HO not the non-HO.
The backing plates for the boarding step came in, i will probably install them next weekend. Hopefully the it wont be hard for me to countersink the mounting holes from inside the hull.
I installed the boarding step yesterday, of course I did NOT prep properly so I got fiberglass shaving all over my arms and legs and have been suffering all night with irritated skin but I’m happy to get this done. This waverunner and my other waverunner are now ready for water this coming season.
As a side note some of the threads in ho cover broke at the seat seam so it’s time to buy a new one, two actually one for each waverunner so they match.
In the future apply powder to your arms etc before doing any fiberglass work.
There are other steps you can take to minimize the fiberglass irritation when washing it off your skin like using spray on soap and a butter knife " flat side" working it only in one direction scraping off the glass and soap in a cold shower so as not to open the pores allowing the glass get in them. Also use throw away clothes as you never want to wash those clothes with the rest of your laundry and lastly spray sunburn spray on your skin if it is really irritated this will relieve some of the irritation. Also medicated powder will help.
Thanks Jeff @Cobra Jet Steering LLC , I am doing better today but serves me right for ignoring past experiences. Here are some pics of the job, it took about 3 hours which is 3 more than it should have but in my defense drilling 6 holes below the water line is nothing to rush.
Hell I have been known to be prone under a suspended hull with a grinder and a D A sanding all day in the Florida sun. The powder on your skin first fills your pores and stops a lot of the glass from getting in , the knife in a downward direction pushes the glass dust off with the soap, spray soap keeps you from working in the dust , cold water closes the pores and keeps the dust out and the sun burn spray is for the dust that still gets you.
I have a grandson that calls those fat chicken steps, Apparently he overheard someone call them fat chick steps so he automatically assumed they were referring to chickens, It all makes perfect sense now but at first I was seriously wondering what the heck he was talking about.
My son and I took the waverunners out for the first time this season yesterday. Everything ran perfectly and the for reasons not known to me the 03 fx 140 has a higher top speed and accelerates better than the 06 fx 140 I had. What we observed is that it accelerates from a standing start almost as fast as the 06 fx 160 also the fx 140 tops out at about 55 mph whereas I could only get the fx 160 to 57 mph yesterday. We used my / my Son’s new truck to tow the waverunners for first time yesterday and it did so without issue. The fact the the new PWC covers match is a bonus.
I wonder if the 06 had the #3 issue that causes the cylinder to miss. It's the compression good on all cylinders? I'm highly skeptical of all mr1s now that I've seen this on 3 of the 4 mr1s I've run compression on.
Thankfully my fx160 is running fine, no issues with the engine (cylinder 3) or otherwise. However, it does have 360 hours on it compared to the 120 the fx140 does. The fx 160 also has my oldest mr1 engine it, I got it with 100 hours back in 2010 or so. The only problems I’ve had with boats with mr1s is my old 06 fx 140, the ecm died. I had 5 mr1s now and still have 2.
Well most of it went well but I started it by jack knifing the trailer slightly, enough that the winch handle dug into the bumper of the tow vehicle and the winch handle was bent as well. Luckily or unluckily I have a spare but broken f2 trailer jack which I was able to scavenge parts fr. Solution, Move led the trailer jack further back on the trailer.
