Just bought a 2014 Yamaha AR192 and when we put it in the water on Saturday and it didn’t want to go over 5200 rpms.
I have check and made sure the impeller is clear, wear ring is in good shape with no nicks or scratches. I changed the spark plugs and charged the batteries. Checked and adjusted the throttle cable

Sunday we put it in the water to try and run thru all the gas to see if it was bad gas. After about 30 mins it started running fine. Cruised the lake and hung out in a cove for a few hours, when we went to take off it did it again. It would go up to 6000 rpms but then pull back down to 5200 rpms. Almost like the computer was telling it to.

i have read a few post on Facebook about similar issues but none of them said what fixed it. Does anyone know what could be causing this or has found a fix for it?

There is a 'limp mode' on the boats where they will rev limit if there is something wrong with the engine (like an overheat condition). However, it does not go into that mode generally without warning (an alarm light, error message, etc.). And 5200 rpm is a bit high for limp mode, I think (but someone here may correct me on that).

So then: I know you said you just bought the boat. Has it ever gone over 5200 rpm? Did you do a sea trial before you bought it and did it run faster then? You also mention 6k--is that generally your top rpm otherwise? My 2012 will usually be in the 7400 range, if I am remembering correctly (easier to remember with the tach in front of me).

Check the oil level to make sure it is not overfilled and the oil filter to make sure that it is not soaked with oil. Overfilling may splash oil on the air filter and basically choke your engine.

We ran it in the drive way and seemed to run fine, it was raining all week so we couldn’t get time to put it in the water.

it ran at 7200 rpmAnd 40 mph after we drove it around for 30 min on Saturday. what is wired it it almost seems to run normal after the engine “Warms up”

I did check the oils
And looked at the air filter but didn’t pull it to see if it was soaked in oil.

I did check it when I checked the clutch, so your saying remove the filter completely
Yeah just take it right out. Sometimes they plug up, choking the engine.

Also check you hoses to the inter cooler and throttle body etc to see if they are loose or clamps are loose.

@Watsx195 I can't speak for OP but I had a similar low rpm / slow mph

Was a leak in intercooler but figuring that out stumped even the dealer who had to talk to Yahama and send logs to figure out.

What was your symptoms... and signs I can look for?...I started to suspect that the intercooler is the only thing in the bay with slight corrosion on the bolts

Couldn't get rpms over like 5500

Max speed 25 mph with two ppl on boat

Max speed like 15 mph with 8 ppl

Pretty much did every element of service possible to figure it out including:

- oil change
- replace spark plugs
- replace wear ring
- replace super charger clutch
- compression test
- replace fuel pump
- replace fuel injectors

At that point I gave up and dropped it at Yamaha shop

That is usually the kiss of death for the air filter element and that chokes out the engine look at the element and see if oil is on it.

No oil in the filter, I was able to take the boat out quickly. Thanks for the advice
