As many know, I moved the family up to Buffalo, NY last summer. We had a decent summer of boating, albeit shorter than we were used it, it was good.

Well, our Indiana registration ran out in April, so we needed to get the boat setup in New York. We're now on month 3 of being unable to get ahold of a real person that can actually do anything to help us. In Indiana, the bank holds the title. In New York the owner holds the title. Well, when we registered her car, she was able to call the local credit union, and work through a few details and get the documents we needed to register the car. It took a couple "back and forths" with the credit union, but we had a real person, and were able to talk it through to get it done.

NOW, Yamaha has been a complete shit show to deal with. We call once a week, and we've escalated to twice a week now. We keep getting told "your request is pending", then we get a copy of our loan documents with a "Your request has been fullfilled" email. So we call back, tell them what we need and are told one of two things "Submit an email request, that's all we can do" or "We see it pending in the system, just sit tight". We've asked multiple times for physical copies, and have received nothing. We can't find any other numbers to call, or people to email, or anyone else to pester to get this moving. I've tried yelling at people, I've tried bribing people, I've offered to drive to wherever they hell they are and "help search" I'm getting NOTHING back from them.

This is beyond frustrating to say the least. We've had the boat out ONCE this season, as we're technically not registered anywhere, and don't want to skirt the laws any more than we have to.

I'm like 99% certain this is a result of when Synchrony loans were bought out by Yamaha Financial a few years ago. I remember others having issues getting title after payoff, and having similar troubles getting Yamaha to actually do anything.

This is the contact information on the portal where we make our payments......The New York Customers notice kind of tells the tale right away of how much they value customers.

I have cash to pay it off, but don't want to add another problem into the mix right now. The last thing this company needs is another complication when they can't even seem to get me someone to talk to on the phone.

SO.......If anyone has any tips/tricks, new phone numbers to call, or an address I can drive to in order to get some things done; I would greatly appreciate it.

Also @Julian The "We Care" link from this thread is no longer active.

Better Business Bureau may be your friend. When you file a complaint with BBB they assign a person that works with business.
Somehow Companies are more motivated to answer you when BBB is involved.

I think the BBB is going to get a complaint. Was just hung up on by a Yamaha Financial Customer Service Rep after being told "You've emailed and there's nothing more you can do. You just have to wait until we respond". I wasn't even being belligerent.......yet.

This is quite absurd considering it's a financial issue. Reason #2,534,918 I won't finance another transaction through them. Going back to local credit unions for all large purchases I think.

And that's the problem.
They lure you in with good rate for 15 year term, and after you realize that they do not provide you with a simple break down like principal and interest. Customer service is non existent. When you try to find it out, you encounter their amazing process someone will get back to you through email.
Email comes month later with dumb statement that you can see online. So I had to estimate all the interest payments for the first 2-3 years.
But, hey, recently they started to show it, and every time is widely different. Not sure what financial systems or software they use but I would expect it to at least correspond Yamaha brand. May be they are not interested in improving it since that is not the source of their revenue but that can force people to go with other brands to avoid the headache. Again, when I was buying no one could touch their rate.
I don't expect you to get any good respond any time soon. It will be either something standard BS or it will be sometime in September.
No one over there is responding within 2 weeks.

I guess I’m confused. What documents do you need from Yamaha?

Letter of Permission to register in NY State

and

Certified copy of the title OR Title abstract.

You don’t have the memo title? What did you use to get the Indiana registration? I believe if you can show residence in the new state you shouldn’t need a permission letter.

In Indiana, the bank holds the title. When I bought new I had certificate of origin for both boat and trailer. That was enough to generate a new registration. Lien was placed on the title, and title was sent to Synchrony Bank.

Synchrony sold all the Yamaha motorsports loans to Yamaha Financial in mid '00, and it's been a shitshow for many since.

Now, I've moved to New York, and can't register the boat there without the above documents. We did the same thing for my wifes car, but we financed through a credit union in Indiana, and a couple phone calls got us what we needed, and everything came together with only a small hiccup.

The bank holds the title in Ohio also, but the lien holder is required to issue a memorandum title for registration purposes. I thought Indiana was the same.

Yea, I have no titlework in hand for the boat or trailer. Never have. Might have supposed to have happened, but it was never a problem before. If it was a problem, then a quick call to the lienholder solved it.

Probably works that way in New York as well, but I can't get the lienholder to do anything other than hang up on me :(

Did you get this? I have some contact info from 2019/2020ish but no idea if that person still works there.

Got this from my online account login. You might want to create an online account.

Did they finance it through Yamaha Finance or through another lender? If through another lender, maybe try calling them. I always try to stay away from the dealer financing and get my own financing with car, motorcycles, boats, etc...
