New Central Texas boat owner!

Nice boat man! I see you're in Belton, did you buy the boat in Dallas? (I see your stop in Waxahachie.) Did you try Marineland in Waco?

We used to camp and boat on Lake Belton and Stillhouse a lot when I lived in Georgetown, like both of those lakes.

Thanks!

Yeah, bought it from Phil Dill in Lewisville for what I think was a really good deal (prior year model). I've heard of Marineland in Waco and I know of at least one member who bought their boat from them. I'm almost at the 10 hour mark and have a couple warranty items I want fixed but have been warned about servicing at Marineland. I'll probably take it back to Phil Dill for servicing. Have you used Ski Dock in Austin for service for your Chaparral?

Yeah, really like Belton and have only fished Stillhouse so haven't really explored it yet. Canyon and Travis are some of my local favorites and really want to check out Texoma and Ouachita this year. Of course Bimini is on the radar!

Do you keep your boat on Travis?

Long story, but I don't have the Chaparral yet, it's on order, and I'm waiting for it to be built and delivered. I live in a village on Lake Travis, so did try Ski Dock, but they just couldn't get me any decent financing at all, and were slapping on ridiculous make-ready fees, and wouldn't work with me at all. I really wanted to support the local dealer, but they just couldn't get it done.

I did end up ordering it from Marineland as they got me better financing, and worked better on the fees. These boats are NAP "No haggle" pricing like the Yamaha's are, so they won't work much at all on the price of the boat, especially given I ordered a '17.

Mindy@ Marineland is super sweet to work with, but yeah, I have no plans to take it there for service. And therein lies the rub, I will be hoping Ski Dock will do a decent job servicing the boat if needed, even though I didn't buy there. I have a good friend with a Tige she bought like in Minnesota over wintertime (saved like $20k over best she got down here), and she's been able to get Ski Dock to do warranty work, so I'm hoping I'm as fortunate. It's ridiculous there's even a worry, but you know how these damn boat dealers can be.

I've had boats pretty much my whole life, so this is just the latest one, but yeah, I keep it on Travis, now in a wet-slip Marina here in Point Venture. Regarding those lakes up there, we used to like Stillhouse a lot because it was smaller, less boat traffic, nice campgrounds, and some super-clear/clean water, especially down at the dam end. Water is so clear down there it's almost ocean-like. Used to like camping at Westcliff there at Belton lake, it has a very cool sandy-beach like area I loved for beaching the jet ski's.

If you make it down to Travis let me know, would love a ride in that new Yammie!

Used to own a 16 foot outboard then a v-drive wakeboard boat so am still getting used to controls on the Yamaha. My wife drives it better at low speed than I do. The acceleration of these jet boats took me by surprise even after reading about them.

Yeah, I think warranty stuff is going to be a pain. Will call Ski Dock to see if they'll work on warranty claims for my boat but not holding my breath.

When we lived down in Austin we camped at Westcliff once and loved it but that was before we had a boat. Took our Kayak's out but could only get so far in an afternoon. Actually ended up finding the house we eventually bought up here one weekend while camping at Live Oak Ridge on the other side of the dam.

Definitely, will do! I have family down that way so could see us doing that one of these weekends. If you feel like trailering her up north once she arrives, let me know and we can meet ya out on the lake!

Smart purchase, nice boat, have a lot of fun with it. Welcome to a site with lots of information and people who love their boats.
