I hope the bitter taste of acquisition cost is erased by the no maintenance (except for charging) aspect for you @Ronnie . They do for me. I read another thread yesterday about guys having the batteries up in the opening of the compartment, where they could get to them for easy service. It really is about what is important to you. If you don't need or want the storage space, then erasing virtually the entire compartment for batteries is no big deal. On the other hand...getting to them if you get them out of the way, makes AGMs a very good choice. What brand did you settle on? I have bought the duracells and the interstate AGMs and had good luck with them both. I will have to replace batteries on the coach at some point. I have two HUGE 12V chassis batteries, and 4 HUGE 6V house batteries. Changing wiring on them isn't happening, that coach has system on top of systems, and a minor change can make a huge mess. But I know a number of guys that have even gone with AGM 6V to avoid having to water them constantly. The pro fill watering system works well and it came with my coach so I will use it for now. It would work well on the boats too I think.
