Hi Everyone--
Boating seaso is almost here in Southern NJ!! I have a 2008 SX230 HO and the "color" part of my hull is significantly oxidized. I have tried everything to bring the luster back, but nothing seems to work (I even had a pro give it a go but that did not do the trick either). I was thinking about wrapping the red (middle section of the hull) and was curious if anyone has ever gone done this roa

Hard to say without pics but wrapping it would probably be 2 to 3 times more expensive than having the boat wet sanded and buffed back into a gloss gelcoat. Car detailers don't understand gelcoat for the most part --- that's my guess on what happened to you when you gave it to someone to restore the gloss.

It'll buff out. A picture of the oxidized gelcoat will help. I wet sanded our 07 Orange AR230, polished and waxed and restored a shine. A rotary polisher with a wool pad, some 3m Marine cleaner & wax will work on light to moderate oxidation. Restored a shine on a 31 yo, 35' white hull using that over two days, working from a ladder.

The Yamaha...

Wet sanded with 1000, 1500 then 2000. Followed by polishing and wax.

Using a rotary and d/a was easier than wet sanding. Even on a ladder.

I am not anti wrap, but I think of dings from docks and chaffe from fenders.
