We are just getting back into boating with our two boys (12&14), I know that there are some must haves like boat safety items, life jackets and emergency requirements, but what are some recommendations for other things like towables and fender types? Are the normal air filled cylindrical type better than the contour fenders? Looking for recommendations and possibly some vendors that have a good rep with this forum.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks NewBoater, it’s on the list.

Boat buckle or similar transom tie downs. Trailer guides/guide-ons.

NewBoater, is it the Stoltz 3.5” version that is needed? Do you have a link got the correct part number and bell part numbers?

thanks!

I like to have options when it comes to fenders. I use the standard Taylor Made fenders for most situations, but also have a pair of Hull Hugr brand contour fenders. Not saying those specifically are a must to have, but just knowing that if one doesn't work for the dock you are at you have something else to try, not all docks are created equal!

Dock lines, good anchor, sea deck, speakers and sub, nice cooler, second battery if one isn't installed already.
What water sports interest you?

at 12 and 14, get those boys into a boaters safety course online! Not sure about your state, but in MN, 12 year olds with boaters safety and an adult can drive the boat. At 14, they can go solo.

Not that you are going to let them run with it on their own, but the course teaches them the basics of navigation and safety. Etiquette and common sense comes with handing over control on a regular basis. It may even be wise for you as parents to run through the course with them. I was surprised at the things I learned, especially things we don't see often in our region.

And since they are not legal to drive the truck, once they are comfortable with the boat, you can back the trailer at landings. My daughter solo'd ours on to the trailer at 12!! She was much cooler headed than her mom when the landing was crowded.

surf package! I already had the coaster from my old boat as well as tow rope, but the wake booster the few times I've had it on my 2020 212x was amazing at cleaning up the wave compared to my old boat. Looking forward to putting more hours in.

We enjoy tubing and want to try wakesurfing. Surf package is being looked at seriously.

Definitely having the whole family take the courses. :)

Your family is going to love surfing.

You can consider Polyform G Series boat fenders. A lot of boaters give a huge thumbs up to this particular boat fender due to its quality. I like that this product does not need to be inflated by the boater as it already comes pre-inflated upon purchase. This will provide convenience to the user with its easy installation feature. In terms of durability, the molded ribs designed provides toughness and abrasion resistance feature that protects the boat from scratches and damages. The polyform material also provides the thickness a boat needs for maximum protection and durability.

Check these out, they seem to be good quality and easily inflate and deflate for saving space.
