Hey guys just changed oil and plugs and wanted to know if stuck oil filters made anyone else arms hurt.....I broke 2 oil strap wrenches. On to the plugs they were easy the plugs appear to have been in a while due to the corrosion and rust on cases and all appeared to have spent most of the at idle....I purchased the boat with 23 hours on a 2013 boat. I know have 40 hours in salt water and she is running great. Sorry forgot engine temps with digital temp the pissers were 87 the Temp gages 88 at pisser..........135 at block 4 different areas the warmest temp was at the block just below the exhaust port 140 the exhaust manifold 125 close to the block.....seemed cool but it was only 73 air temp and 76 water temp.

@David Martin ..... that oil filter could have been overtightened but more likely, if it was on that block since 2013 the gasket just stuck to the block. I'm sure you know to put some fresh oil on the oil filter gasket ring and only hand tighten it. The really, really good news is if those plugs had been left in that block since 2013 you are so lucky they hadn't seized!

It had M1 102A Mobil filter so I'm with you, I'll bet the filter was put on dry. The oil looked new coming out so I put 10w 40 semi synthetic in her with Mobil 1 filter(oiled hand tighten) hopefully next change will be easer. So far its just been a big learning curve on Yamaha jet engines and drives and this site has a lot of helpful owners.

Just want to mention that if you just hand tighten you need to make sure you're doing it right - had someone try that with me before and had oil leaks because it wasn't torqued fully.

Get a proper metal filter wrench for that exact filter and save yourself the hassle next time.

Oil filter PLIERS link.

These work great. In my lifetime, I've used cap wrenches, strap wrenches, hammer and a screwdriver, and a good old fashioned hand. No idea if you've got enough room for the pliers, but I did for my boat. I do not like the cap wrenches in general, but whatever you use, it's going to be a matter of personal preference and opinion. I'm with @Canuckjetboater that it sounds like the gasket was stuck to the mating surface of the engine. I'd keep an eye on it to make sure you don't have any slight leaks arise due to some gasket material still left on there.

That was the case for me with the one hammer/screwdriver removal I had to do. Ultimately, I darn near had to destroy the filter and remove it piece by piece, and I didn't clean the gasket surface off as well as I should have. Looking at it, that's likely why the thing stuck so well - it was a difficult location to access, so the previous owner of the car prolly didn't change the oil filter, and I was left with the stuck-on mess to deal with. After pulling the new filter off and fishing a mirror down to see what was up, I had to get a gasket scraper and get all the garbage off that I hadn't noticed the first time.

I have moved to the K&N oil filters with the welded nut on the end for easy changing for my 08 AR230. My first set of filters after I bought my boat used looked very similar to your pics.
