Second boat first...

Talked to the Wife and we both decided to wait till next season. I recently got promoted and that means I could get orders pretty quick. I would hate to get a newer boat and get order to Korea or Europe and the boat sit for 3 years.

Don't you worry about that. We'll take care of your boat for you. Even keep your seat warm!!

Britboater - did you trade in the 190 after one season? How much did you lose on that deal?

Yes, I took a kick in nether regions :arghh:, but waiting I would of just lost more. If you can't afford to up-grade that's perfectly understandable but the day before I put my order in my Father-in-law had just been diagnosed with lung cancer, he's not with us now.
Life is not a rehearsal, if you can do something now why wait, you do not know what's around the corner.

I agree, I am not one to wait on pulling the trigger. I just talked to my marina and it looks like I will have to wait until next year, which probably isn't a bad idea. The only open slips are 1k more than where I currently am, I'd be in the 30-60' boat dock lol.

I think over the winter towards next spring I'll look to trade up. I would think I would be closer to breaking even then I am now.

I think I owe 31ish and the boat is probably worth 25-26 on a trade?

Boats and smokers...figure out what size you need and go one bigger...

Great mantra.... just don't apply it to girlfriends & wifes!!

Boats, like all other references you have heard, are not a money making proposition. So get what puts lead in your pencil! Agree that nothing with 8 aboard will be roomy or fast, but a 24' with dual 1.8L's will still do better than 45mph, and give you WAY more room than a 19 or even the 21. But budget has to be accommodated. So do what is best for your family and enjoy having the luxury of having a boat to make those memories in!

I came from an 18 foot boat and went to the dealership planning on a 192. I brought my wife, son and his friend and when they were in the 192 I could see the same space issues coming. Got up in the 21 and was like "Wow, this is a boat" and didnt look back. Would I like the 24, yeah but I dont believe its necessary for me going forward

I think the 21 is the best option for me also. If I was able to afford a $60k boat I would get a 2016 242. I have a friend that will be selling his after July 4th weekend but I just can't see spending that much. I would like to stay around $35-$40k so I am not regretting the payment every time I'm on the boat. I over extended myself before when I got the Suburban. The wife and I were making good money but she lost almost 50% of her pay when sequestration came around a few years ago. That made for some very tight times, it also put some serious stress marriage. Most of you know, "happy wife, happy life."
