I’d like give a big shoutout and thank you to Jeff W owner/inventor of the Cobra Steering System for jet boats. I am a first time boat owner and chose a 2015 Yamaha SX 190 jet boat as my first boat. After being on the water a couple of times, I realized that it may have been a bad first choice of boats. So I started doing some research. Hydro jet vs Thrust vectors, etc. So I came to the forum and asked around as to what can be done at slow speeds and neutral to keep the boat under control. It was recommended by “Hangoutdoors” to check out Jeff’s Cobra Steering System. I did and I am very pleased with the product.

It arrived within a couple of days and It was easy to install. It made the boat perform/steer perfectly in choppy water and moderate winds at slow speeds during the test run today. The thrusters didn’t effect the plaining as it jumped out of the water with ease. It seemed to provide some additional steering at higher speeds as well. It even made docking a breeze which made me sweat previously.

I even purchased a jet port E-Z Lock but I wasn’t quite sure where to drill the hole. So I called Jeff. He explained the process and I had no issues. Now that’s not a normal course of business. When was the last time you had an owner especially the inventor call you back to walk you through the process? I’m not sure who the competition might be, but I don’t think you would get the same service. Maybe you’d get a salesman calling you back at their convenience.
if you have any questions, please feel free to reach out. Again, thank you Jeff for a fantastic product. It does what you say it’s suppose to do.??

Thank you for your post and testimonial . I invented my steering systems for jet boats to solve the same problem I had with my first jet boat, it was horrid to steer and I refused to drive it, people bad mouthed jet boats a lot worse back then than they do now and told people to stay away from them , the jet boat market was seriously declining and never expected to recover.
Members of the Yamaha jet boat forum asked me repeatedly to make a steering system for the Yamaha jet boat lineup that site is where most of us that have been on this site from the very beginning came from. One day a member dropped off his Yamaha jet boat in my front yard and asked me to please build something to help with the steering deficits and let him know when it was ready. I said ok and called him to come get his boat and go try it out. We took it to lake Seminole to test drive it and he was totally impressed with the improved steering soon after I was making Yamaha jet boat steering day in and day out.
Now so many years later after many changes and upgrades I have the super steering and this offers the most features and benefits like variable effect based on the position of the hull in the water, adjustments so you choose the level of influence, carefully designed fins that avoid hanging down too far, tempered aluminum fins that do not need reinforcements like round bars between the fins for stability.
Providing steering enhancements not just at the dock but at all speeds and for watersport activities it is adjustable, selectable ,some have plaining surfaces plus upgrades for reverse improvement above and beyond the steering fins , some have top fins and second tie rods for the newer boats with the keel and rudder.
So yes I am the inventor . I am the designer and the patent holder. But I never chased this It came to me as a challenge when I purchased a jet boat and when Yamaha jet boat owners asked me to help them enjoy their boats. And when p w c owners asked if I could make their experience better, once again I built systems for those that I actually impressed me beyond belief ,
And prior to making them steer like never before I hated those things scaring away my fish when I was on the water. or jumping my wake.
Back then if anyone would have told me how impressed I would be with that end of the industry I would have told them to forgetaboutit but now I can't get enough of them and it has been that way for many years.
So again thank you for doing your research and coming to the only logical conclusion from materials ,design and full control providing the most features and benefits , to improve your boating experience by making your jet boat complete and making you smile when you drive it!

I need to one myself. My boat launch is about 20ft wide and has filings down both sides for about 400 ft to open water as far as the eye can see. 90% of the time there's steady wind and wave action and I pretty much look like a pinball machine backing out the ramp. Honestly, it would be hilarious to watch if I wasn't worried about scratching the gelcoat.

I build model specific systems so they are designed to work better for each different boat and pump design
For your boat I would recommend the super ultimate ak-19 deluxe system only $268.99 with free domestic priority mail shipping. Get all speed control not just at the dock and even off power steering so you can slow down and maintain steerage, plus water sport steering and a plaining surface adjustable fins made of tempered aluminum and spring loaded. These do not increase the draft of the boat either. and the leading edge is cut to avoid interfering with the new angled thrust nozzles that Yamaha has been putting on the boats since 2019 those are very effective and I do not recommend messing with that style of nozzle it has 2 angled water exit points so when one is pointed forward to create reverse thrust the other is creating angled side thrust to give the back of the boat a sideways push either direction it does the same thing without taking away any of the original reverse thrust. I did a quick picture to demonstrate this placed next to an earlier style nozzle that had just an oblong nozzle opening and was not all that effective in comparison. the third picture shows a view from the top so you can see how the fins cutout allows the water to exit at an angle. if you do not have fins that are cut out the water gets blocked and it can not work properly.

My wife ordered me a set of viper for fathers day which were delivered today. I went with fixed for durability and simplicity. Hopefully, I'll be back at the lake this weekend or the next to install and try them out. Looking forward to seeing how they perform as my lake and location are extremely challenging due to current/wind.
