Bought cheap amazon waterproof tablet and good cup holder bracket. Connect to nsx .
It mirrors the GPS chart. Also able to download update to tablet then push to nsx.
Now I have another 10" screen and can use nsx for full screen fish finder.
It also shows other simrad boaters in the area and some AIS commercial ships. Has weather and tides etc.

Can you see it in the sun? I use an iPad but not nearly bright enough. Not nearly as bright as the Simrad. Now I do think it is way easier to plot a route on the iPad and sync it than to plot on Simrad screen

No issues with sun light. It is "rugged " for out door use. So water proof , daylight viewable. And can drop 4'+
Not in front of it, but think it was " hotwave" brand on amazon. On sale under $200 ,so way cheaper than iPad. If it does break I won't cry.

PS
1 issue. Polarized sunglasses can be hard to see at an angle.

I admit I don’t actually know what a NIT is but it’s a measure of brightness. A Hotwav tablet on Amazon has 450 of them. My iPad has 600 and my Simrad has 1200.

Is iPad mounted under a hardtop or direct sun?
I have hardtop . used tablet multiple times never had issue viewing the app.
Is iPad brightness turned up to max?

iPad fits perfectly in the gap behind windshield under T-top. I have charger in the 12v port as the battery won’t last long on full brightness. When I’m fishing in the front I want to be able to see our depth and bottom contour so I can keep us at desired depth. Long story short on sunny days I can’t see it.

I’m in the process of a major tech upgrade. I think the best answer to this is to move my GO-9 unit to the bow under the FSH.

Battery should last a few hours even with brightness turned up. How old is iPad battery?
I had laptops that would not last too long without being plugged n. Usually battery going bad.
You can see the go9 in the bow area?not too low?
What about a rail mount ? Or run app on cell and strap to your arm?

IPad is almost new. A few hours is not near long enough. I keep it plugged into charger while using it turned to full brightness.
I’m not going to belabor the point and I’m glad this is a solution for you. I’m just saying it doesn’t work for me.
I haven’t moved Simrad yet I just know it’s a lot brighter. bow mounted screens are real common on bass boats so I thought it might work. I’m uninstalling it from the helm so I’ll have it laying around. I would test drive at the bow before cutting any holes
Cheers

The simrad / cmap app is super buggy. The import gpx feature has been broken for months with no resolution, the download offline maps function regularly crashes, and the app will just fail to start randomly.

I'm sure it's good as an additional screen, but I definitely wouldn't trust it as a primary display.

I havent had any issues since last update.
Its secondary to nsx . basically I like to have nsx full screen while fishing and use app for gps chart. It would also he a good backup gps chart if nsx craps out.
