Steering is tight

I have what I believe to be s steering issue as well. However this is our first boat, therefore first Yamaha. Love it but my steering feels tight when at speeds, but quite loose and not real responsive when at no wake speed. Thoughts? Again inexperienced here but I see my buddies w other boats that turn better and are much easier to dock. I am fairly handy, already replaced both reverse cables and installed cobra jet steering. 2007 sx230 HO. Thanks.

Tight at speed and slow to respond at no wake speed.... . sounds like you bought a jet boat to me. Joking aside... this sounds like normal to me. it takes some getting used to.

I agree with @sethman919 unless it is just waaaay over the top. When adding a steering system it add pressure to the steering system esp at speed. The sluggishness at no wake is just a jet boat.. With time u will be able to maneuver that boat like its nothing.
