You can see why everyone is changing this bow stop

First, loosen the winch strap about 6" and leave hooked up. Remove transom straps. Drive your vehicle in reverse and hit the brakes to get the boat to slide a few inches.

Next, remove the locking nut and bolt from the old bow stop (or in my case new) be careful not to slip and hit your boat, they are on very tight.

Now the Stoltz 4" bow stop ult4 will be about a quarter inch bigger than the opening.

I took a 2x4 and wedged it into the opening and whacked the 2x4 with my rubber mallet. If you look at the opening towards the end it is bowed out farther than the inside. And that's all there is to it folks. Install the new bow stop and your done.

After the install, I noticed that the boat doesn't even touch the middle roller so you really don't need to bend out the bracket that much.

Also you can change it after you unload took me 5 minutes to do. Just have all the tools available after you unload.

Yup that dang thing is a gelcoat killer. Your new boat is too nice to let it get abused every time you load.

is there any advantage to the roller type stop over the solid, "V" stop?

Stoltz makes a 3.5" version (center piece) specific for the shorelander trailer so you dont have to wedge it in or spread the metal out. Just fyi for others looking at doing this mod. I didnt have to make any modifications to mine, this 3.5" version slid right into place.

Did anyone else have to change out the bolt that holds the rollers on? I have the 3.5" roller set and when I tried to install I couldn't get the bolt through the other side enough to thread the nut on the end.

I noticed that Stotz has the 3.5 inch rollers for our trailers, but they have the option of with or without the "bells". Is there a need for the bells. With the current roller, it seems as if the "bells" are what actually seems to be the cause for marks/scratches on the boat. Any problem with not having the "bells"?
