Hey guys, going to fix the anchor locker drain by using the 3/8 apex and some boat life silicone. I have been using the boat and anchor so I’m planning to clean the surface and wondering what is recommended? I thought iso alcohol would be fine but the silicone says not to use it so wondering is best to use.
Thanks in advance.

Alcohol will stop it from curing, or curing properly, I believe.

Acetone. It will dull your paint, so I would use it is very sparingly, and very very carefully if you are using it on the exterior of your hull.

INSIDE the anchor locker, less important.

If you are talking about the fix of sticking a piece of 3/8" PEX into the fitting and sealing that, just stuff it in and seal the end off that will keep the pipe inside the fitting

I used a lot of acetone when prepping for seadek and removing stickers and I didn’t have any issues with my gelcoat.

That is the plan just wanted to make sure I had what I might need. I know it’s a easy fix just wanted to be prepared. Thanks again

@nosterka Only if the surface is still wet with alcohol, but it drys very fast if it's warm outside. Just make sure the surface is completely dry and you won't have any issues with adhesion. I always recommend cleaning surfaces with alcohol before applying adhesive products - no issues.

Acetone will dull painted surfaces. But it doesn't hurt cured gelcoat when used sparingly - in fact it's recommended as a strong cleaner for gelcoat. I wouldn't leave it on wet, just wipe the area clean with a damp rag and you won't have any issues. Been using it to clean the old boat for many years without issue. New boat is so clean and shiny no need for strong acetone, 99% pure alcohol works fine.
