Unfortunately the out-of-box setup is pretty lame for wave creation when it comes to ballast. Yamaha, like Chaparral, doesn't understand that weight=better wave. To get the best way you'll need to add some more weight. If you're not trailering a lot, you might consider using lead bags that will store in your aft compartments. You'll just have to transfer them to the surf side.

As others have said, it's about putting that platform slightly in the water and getting that lean going. For now, i would keep your surf-side tank at 50% full and get all passengers to sit on that side.

I also think theres regulations on how much weight can be put on the boat from manufacture. This goes for even the big names in wake boats. You see all of those boats also adding weight ontop of what comes with the boat.

I have no doubt with the correct weight added the boat will make a decent wake. The booster def helps, because the difference between deployed and not is a apparent. Its just getting the right recipe. I still think the addition somehow of a jetwash deflector will aid even more. Issue is the booster deploys and cuts off the traditional attachment point that the wakewedge uses. JBP jetwash deflector was shown to have bent in some instances when used with a wakebooster. I think thicker material should solve this and or a unit developed solely to be used in conjunction.

Here’s a photo from Gantlin page to show how you really need that angle of the boat and the back of the boat dug in the water to get that big wave.

@Klover - I think once you add the new 25ft transom bag you will notice a difference and you can fine tune your ballast from there. We had a dealer test the bag after struggling with his surf wave and he was so surprised it fixed his issues.

I heard the 2022 255XD's supercharged engines are not CA-compliant. Has anyone run into this roadblock? I'm thinking of ordering one from out of state and driving it in...does anyone have an opinion on whether the supercharged engines are worth it? (yes, I'm a newbie to Yamahas...thanks for any perspective you can provide!).

Yes I heard from dealers down in Nevada and AZ that they had lots of people from CA trying to buy from them due to not being able to sell the supercharged in CA. The supercharge is great, but the premium gas and consumption is not Top speed is about 58 MPH with the supercharge.

tried a few combos (100, 100, 50 - 100, 80, 25 - 100, 80, 9) in slightly choppy water with the ballasts and couldnt get a surfable wave with 2 adults on the boat. really want to get this thing dialed!

Well there was a slight misunderstanding with Fatsac. I am not going to go into details but they are working on my order now. Sometime July is the projected ship date for my order. Please keep in mind this is a new product to them and the quantity that I have on order will take some time while they are still keeping up with current production orders.

I have the 255XD, and will say that the acceleration is amazing. I'm coming from an AR210 previously, and it's a crazy difference (as it should be). I can't say how much you'd lose without the supercharged engines, but I can say you'll never want for power.

We tried 100/100/0, and got a much better lean on the boat and better wave. My youngest is a about 150 lbs and was able to go rope-less only briefly. We had three adults in the boat. I think we just need an external ballast on the swim deck, which is really disappointing!

Gotta sink them! My setup is 2k lbs of water weight before passengers. Just don't tell the coast guard.

I was able to go ropeless on mine with 100-100-50 and also a cooler full and one person on the transom with 8 other people spread out on the boat and I weigh 217lbs. Just seems to me you just need a little more weight and to list the boat.

Looks awesome! We also experienced a huge wake improvement when we put an adult on the surf side transom.

Some fall in the water and pass out with no jacket on and some have the effects from being back there happen later in the day. Much wiser to order a Fatsac for transom which is what I did. I am going to order one soon, I was just experimenting with weight that day. Im surprised they get carbon monoxide poisoning while the boat is moving. I was un aware of that.
