I'm hoping that someone may have some useful intel to share with me.
The seatback storage lockers have a latching mechanism that holds them closed. It seems like it's spring-loaded. Mine was "fixed" under warranty, but the problem has resurfaced. I think that the only real fix is to replace the latch mechanism.
The on-line schematics do not show the part. I called Yamaha, and their best guess is that it's part of the seatback, which costs in the $500 range. Yamaha could not give me the name of the seat manufacturer, and I was told that even if I found the seat manufacturer, they are not allowed to sell any of Yamaha's parts to anybody but Yamaha.
I'd like to go the OEM route and don't really want to resort to installing a different latch unless absolutely necessary.
Thanks

So annoying! I'm on my third on the STRBD side. Good thing is - it's cheap. Pops up with a flat screwdriver.

Warranty! Must be nice to have one.
I forgot about it.
Mine never worked though... from factory plus 3yr of YES. It must have been a bad batch :D

I believe I have had this conversation with @swatski before. The latch on my refrigerator is similar. The manufacturer is Southco. I have had the same issues and have been through a few latches, but Sunfrost gives them to me under lifetime warranty.20180126_223735.jpg 20180126_222701.jpg

Anybody wanna state what the actual problem is????????????????????? Interesting thread about warranty, and yamaha sux, and blah blah blah etc but no statement whatsoever about what the actual problem is that's being discussed. After 7 posts you apparently just have to "know" what everyone is talking about. SO....anyone wanna fill in the blanks so that new and future owners have a clue whats being discussed and in need of repair when they do an internet search on the subject matter sometime in the next 5 years.?

Yep. Same basic latch mechanism, just different housing.

I actually keep a spare now in the glove compartment.

Interetingly, even with that latch broken (or out all together) the compartment door/backseat stays closed - even at speed. Must be in part by gravity and in part by air pressure (?), but it is a good thing.

Here you go, there is a better explanation of the issue with pics/schematics:

I read all of @swatski posts about this and that’s what lead me to call my dealer. I can’t thank him enough for all his documented information on these boats
It didn't even occur to me that this could be a common problem, and as such I didn't even search the forum for the info that I needed. Rookie mistake. Next time, ..., I'll just pm @swatski... way easier.:winkingthumbsup"

Sorry for being too vague; I should have specified that the reason that the latch has to be replaced is because it doesn't latch anymore. Thanks for your constructive feedback. Interesting first post; it would have been more effective if you had typed your reply all in upper case. ;)
Welcome to the forum @RoketRdr ... it's the best forum on the net, hands-down. You have a great boat, from a great company, but you'll definitely need the expertise on this forum in order to make your ownership experience a good one. I've often thought that Yamaha should support the forum ($$) because the knowledge that lies within it, combined with the cooperative camaraderie, is something that Yamaha does not possess. This forum makes the Yamaha Boat brand something worth buying.

I cannot get enough!!!! Especially after the bimini planing and people publicly declaring that they are willing to play for the “other” team only if @tim h was willing to join

PS. Back to topic. Please make sure next time you give very detailed explanation how a latch fails. LOL

Sooo i have a scenario that's bugging me, I purchased the replacement as mine broke recently but I'm noticing the replacement latch doesn't hinge out to accept the latch to lock in place, does anyone know if I'm supposed to pull out this hinge somehow?? I've tested to see if I can pull out the latch but afraid of snapping it. I've search everywhere, and you would think this was a simple replacement, maybe I'm missing something. Removing the old from the cushion was a breeze then slipped the new one in, but realized it wasn't clicking in to lock in place and seemed like it won't without that hinge being angled. Any help is appreciated. Sorry if it seems to be a dumb question :)

Hi @Eddie Lopez, it looks like your female is closed (resisting temptation to make a bad joke). Use a flat screwdriver to flip the latch-lock in the female out so that your male will insert.

Lol, it’s all good still had me laughing, I’ll give her the ole screwdriver tomorrow, just got off the water and exhausted. I’m just worried of snapping trying to pry it loose was my concern, but I did buy two so I guess if one breaks I have the extra....

Why wouldnt we just install magnets in place of these crappy latches. Mine broke on my 2019 AR240 and I thought what a cheap piece of crap.
