Just wondering if anyone here has done the tow point light install. Any suggestions on best practice drilling that center hole for the wiring?

Watching...I inquired in oct. 2016 about this on the other site, pp22, and never followed up. I would still like to install this on my tower tow point. The battery option looks good too. I did not call the manufacturer and could not find it on their webpage so it got put on the back burner. Seriously considering the battery option for a spring mod. I have already run wiring inside my tower, not difficult at all. But drilling thru the tow point into the tower using the other adapter is a lot more work. But my tow point is different, so the adapter may not fit.

For the very little night boating I do - I use the battery option with absolutely no regrets. That unit is amazing. And the install is super clean.
You’d never know it was a battery unit.

I have the kit, came with the light, the wire, the grommets to wire around the bung in the tower, just never got to the work. Figure i'll do that now over the "winter" slow season here and add some more courtesy lights and my lighted cup holders. Next up, sound proofing

I received my tower tow point nav./running/courtesy light today. It is the battery powered Navilight 360 2NM. Ordered from Amazon. Powered by 3AAA batteries and has a magnetic base included, and it floats in a MOB scenario.20180125_094303.jpg20180125_094329.jpgThe magnetic base has a countersunk hole for mounting.20180125_094621.jpg20180125_094759.jpg My plan is to drill and tap a hole in the existing screw on the tow point and mount the base there with a 8 or 10-32x1/2" or 3/4" s.s. countersunk screw. 20180125_085043.jpg Many options on illumination of led's for anchor/running lights. And in case of MOB at night it can be quickly removed and tossed to the person to mark position.

Weather is warming up. Installed the first mod. On my short list. The battery operated tow point light was easy. Just remove the screw holding the tow point to the tower. Put it in a small vice and drilled with a tap drill for a 10-32 x 1/2" flat head screw.

I still use this "quick reference design chart" from the 80's to choose the drill. Once drilled, I go over to the box of taps I inherited from my grandfather. Never know what you will find in there.20180422_102622.jpg
But I found both a starting and a bottoming 10-32 unf taps. Then tapped the hole.

Looks like this when done.

And then put it back together.

The great thing about this one is, it can be removed from the damaging sun exposure and stowed leaving only the magnetic base in place. And it floats.
