Had no guides for a year or so, no problems, easy hitting and centering on the bunks, every time.

Then boated out of the yacht club on Milwaukee’s south side (onto Lake Michigan) one time. Glass in the morning changed to 3+ footers by mid-afternoon… then swung around until they were coming nearly straight out of the south. Yup, right through the cut in the breakwater. Landing a year old boat with young kids and a nervous wife aboard while short period two footers slammed us broadside was not fun. At all. It was more luck than skill that delivered us onto the trailer with no glass damage. I vowed I would never do that again.

65” VeVe guides with pads and covers (I had Screamin’ Sacks, fairly sure they went bankrupt, but other brands are available) were the solution. I did not need them often, but in side currents or significant chop when recovering onto the trailer, they proved their worth many times. HIGHLY recommended.

PS: Make sure to pull your fenders in before you load through tall guides onto your trailer!

PPS: To save your nylon covers from unnecessary UV aging, pull the pvc pipes off your trailer and store in the garage when not actively using.
