All for a dang manatee zone, I would have been like capt... I got a jet boat I cant chop up no manatee like them other A holes...

That sucks.

You can still hit manatee with your hull, rudder, fins etc and cause them harm.

Moral of the story is don’t get hammered and operate a boat and you’ll have no problems. He was slurring words and swaying in the wind from the get-go.

Skimmed through it but did they administer a breathalyzer? I recently got pulled over on the water and was asked to take their field test and I refused. I wasn’t going to be at the subjective opinion of a officer in a swaying boat. Told them I’d be happy to take a breathalyzer and I guess they didn’t have one as they then let me go.

No they didn’t. Hell I would have trouble with some of those tests sober. Especially the fist at the chest one haha.

A breathalyzer is not required to get arrested for DUI. That guy clearly failed the tests before the tests ever started, unless of course he had a stroke previously.

As far as declining field sobriety tests you can do that. It doesn't mean you'll be let go or mean you can't be hauled to the PD to take further tests. It's up to that officers discretion so I'd make sure you A) know what you're doing B) have a good attorney and C) don't mind possibly wasting hours of your time.

Refusing a Field Sobriety Test
Field sobriety tests are voluntary, and completion of the tests is not required under the law. If asked to complete a field sobriety test, a driver may politely decline to do so or may ask to speak with his or her attorney. While the driver will not face legal penalties for declining to participate, it is important to understand that this does not mean that the driver will simply be let go. In most instances, if a driver refuses a field sobriety test, he or she will be asked to undertake a chemical test to determine his or her blood alcohol level, such as a breathalyzer test or a blood test. The driver may even be taken to the police station or jail for a short period of time while these tests are conducted. Unlike field sobriety tests, refusing to perform a breathalyzer test or provide a blood sample can have very serious consequences.

Any attorneys on here willing to weigh in on possible downside for requesting to skip the field sobriety tests and go directly to breathalyzer (in an on-water situation)?

I don't know about you guys, but there is no way I could consume "15" beers in an afternoon, day and still be verticle. Light weight I guess. State Boating Laws

No doubt this guy was obviously drunk.

Why is this on YouTube or posted on Jetboaters? The man was wrong and should pay the consequences of his actions, but posting this was not necessary. Would you want to be displayed in an embarrassing situation on YouTube or on a forum? I thought we were here to help others and share the enjoyment of boating? Have some respect for someone who made a bad decision.

Because he's on a Yamaha jet boat....lol? This forum is for sharing, videos included. He is in the wrong, not me, remember that.

Our lakes this year have had record high boating accidents, many due to alcohol related collisions. Many also died, young children included, so I don't see this as embarrassing but rather helping raise awareness. Don't drink to get drunk and drive. YMMV.

FWIW let's not pretend this is his first time making this decision. I'm sure he's a regular at the sandbar and probably consumes every time he boats. I bet you wouldn't be siding with him if he had just ran over a girl or a bunch of animals. My hunch is you're just upset it's a Yamaha jetboat owner. Get over that and see it for what it is. A person well over the legal limit driving around you and your family. Why should I give him respect when he clearly doesn't respect the law or your safety and anyone else on his boat?

Drink responsibly is all it takes. It's not hard but some people don't know how to control themselves. We take beer out with us but never drink while driving. I use the one beer per hour rule of thumb to keep me safe and legal. If I consume more than one beer per hour then I sit in that cove for those required amount of hours. We never get sloshed or hammered while boating. It's just stupid. I'd never do it in a car so why treat it any different on the water? Too many people think because you're off the roads that it somehow makes it safer to drink and drive impaired on the water but that couldn't be further from the truth. No brakes on a boat. No lanes or guard rails to keep others safe. I don't care if this triggers some one because I posted it to raise awareness that yes even a jet boat can make stupid decisions and get caught.

Did he say 15? I thought he said 5.

I thought i did the first time, last night. I just listened again and heard 4 or 5, several out at the sand bar. Thought I heard 14, almost 15 last night. Idk what I heard now.

Edit: Yes, he did say 14-15 beers later in the video. Thanks @seanmclean for picking that up.

I do not care what boat he was in. Sounds childish to me you think that way. I am not on his side either. I said he was wrong and I do not condone what he did. I just have respect for others.

^^^LOL this guy. Yea I'm sure the same cop that got busted would care about "respecting you" if you drove drunk on the highway and he pulled you over....

Please.

Move along if you don't care to watch the video. It's completely within the realms of sharing on this site or any boating site to show that nobody is above the law and people should respect other people's lives and property and not drive drunk. Respect is earned, not a right. You lose any respect when you knowingly take your life and others around you for granted just so you can get plastered. I should have put a trigger warning I guess in the OP.

You do realize that haknslash did not post the video himself right? It is on YouTube. He did not make it public he is just posting it up. Many people come across shit daily while looking for something they have an interest in.

He’s not the reason it’s on the internet. Get off your high horse.

Moral of the story. Don’t drink and drive. All of this could have been avoided including being on a YouTube video and posted on forums. Don’t drink and drive it’s just not worth it.

I have respect for others untill they lose that respect, which he did lose the second he got behind the wheel of his boat.
I have 0 respect for anyone driving under the influence over the legal limit
